I doubt it… rg coaches very tough and we should have enough upper class men where this kid is not needed much… wont be as deep as this year but should still have plenty of depth and production without needing him year 1.

RG is the reason this kid is already tough.

You must not be aware of their history.

This kid is a beast.

Top 2-3 DL coaches in the country, for sure. I wouldn’t trade him. I mean, by all accounts he turned Amari McNiel and sounds like Jayson Jenkins - two lower ranked kids - into contributors. Even if AM contributed somewhere else because he wasn’t patient enough to stay here.

That said - he’s also long in the tooth and I don’t think his tough love approach appeals to most kids these days.

I liken it to Bill Parcells. Players hated Parcells when they played for him but then once they were used to him or after their careers - they loved him because they wisened up/matured to understand BPs methods.

So I definitely think Eckeler/Chop are probably our most active/best recruiters at this point.

Just my perspective and wanting to give credit where it’s due. If people want to take this as me disrespecting RG, so be it.

I am very aware of their history… I follow recruiting closely how many interior DL have had a significant role year 1 under RG since he’s been here? I like Ethan a lot I talk to corn elder every day and we mention him often… he needs a year to learn and grow without having to be a significant contributor year 1… fans do this every year expect a guy to contribute year 1 in the sec on the LOS especially that is very rare… only one true freshman total contributed significantly this year though Matthews n Lewis have both showed signs… I think the kid will be a monster for us just doubt it will be year 1 more power to the kid if he does though.

I said 1st year contributor…

Not starter. Not necessarily 2nd string.

Contributor.
Like Tyree West. Hobbs. Omar Norman-Lott. Moi. All of those guys contributed their 1st year at Tennessee.

Fair enough though ONL and moi were both key contributors year 1 Tyree west and Hobbs were not I’m sure you know the difference… I guess we differ in what a contributor looks like either way I’m excited to have Utley on Rocky top.

Idk West contributed a safety in the Vandy game. Pretty sure he’s been a little nicked up this year. May be more a force in the playoffs in the rotation.

They do, but West and Hobbs play positions that are actually tougher to break into as freshmen, given the added size/strength requirement. A freshman edge can get on the field more easily if he’s quick, in specialty situations.

We’re simply deeper across the roster now than we used to be.

Yup.

All across the board we’re deeper.

2025 is going to be an amazing year.
- All speed at WR
- Power and Skill and TE
- Hard running RBs that don’t go down
- Older Edge defenders
- Veterans at DTs with young SUPER talented DTs getting in the rotation growing into beast hood.
- Linebackers with experience with SUPER talented LBs that can also run and hit!
- Top CB tandem in the SEC with talented backups veteran and true freshman
- safety….veterans.
- Boo Carter at NB with Harrison running it back! BOOM!
