Class of 2025 defensive lineman Amir Leonard-Jean Charles was back on Tennessee’s campus Saturday for the Vols junior day.

The reality for the 6-4, 325 pound Mount Juliet, Tennessee (Lipscomb Academy) prospect is that he could have very easily been a tour guide instead of a visitor.

Charles has seen the Vols some half dozen times already.

“It was good,” Charles said of the visit. “They had a lot for us to do. It was a lot of fun. I got to have one on one time with coach Garner. Just being back here is always a good time.”

Having seen the facilities and gone on all the tours, Charles’ focus on Saturday was on building better relationships with the coaching staff.

“For me it was really about just trying to build more of a connection with the coaches. Getting to know them more,” Charles offered.

His original interest in the Vols camp from the fact that he has many friends on Tennessee’s campus along with the reputation of defensive line coach Rodney Garner.

“First it was all my friends are going here and I looked into it,” Charles said of what peak his interest in the Vols. “Tennessee is a pretty good school. They have coach Garner here which is great. He is known for defensive lineman and getting them high in the draft. It looks like a good school.”

Charles recently saw Florida and will see Michigan again as he said the Vols and the Wolverines currently sit at the top for him with a decision likely sometime before August.

“Tennessee definitely is in the top two with Michigan,” Charles said. “I will probably commit sometime this summer before the season starts.”

In the meantime that means more visits including a return trip to Rocky Top.

“I’m going to come up for one of the practices during spring ball to see how practice functions. How it operates and how the coaches coach in the moment. That’s always good to see.”

And coaches to want to see the Nashville product.

“I have been told that people love how I move at the size that I am and the length that I have. My wingspan is 85 inches,” Charles offered.
