I came home from work on Thursday to find a Bill Haslam sign in my front yard. My wife said she had no idea who put it there, and we sure as heck were never asked by anyone whether that was okay or not.
I don't necessarily have a problem with Haslam, I just found that a little presumptuous.
As a matter of fact, I don't really know the difference between Haslam and Wamp politically. Can someone help distinguish the difference between these two guys? I'm sure I'll vote GOP, and I know Haslam has done a lot for the Knoxville area. Other than that, I'm pretty uneducated.

For me it's a toss up between Ramsey and Wamp.

I lean toward Ramsey for two reasons;

He stands the best chance of beating Haslam and whoever the Democrat candidate may be.

Although I like Wamp, he has been to Washington and color me cynical but I lose about half my trust in anyone we send up there, no matter how good they are, before long they're speaking another language.

There is no doubt that these federal contractors have incentive to stay on Wamp's good side. However, what is good for most of these entities (like ORNL or Y-12) is good for Wamp, too. Wamp is going to go to bat for them regardless. I'm not sure how much influence he or other representatives would have on who gets the contracts to run those shows. That decision is made within DOE/NNSA and the administration, but I suppose there could be outside influence.

I simply cannot vote for Wamp because he does not have a college degree.

It's not that big of an issue for me, as long as the person can process thoughts and apply logic/reason. He has obviously been successful without one, and I don't see it as a prerequisite to govern.

What he did was essentially set up a federally-funded campaign racket and enriched his friends and political allies at AkinsCrisp in the process

And all that from a guy that didn't even graduate from college.

I'm not saying Wamp is an idiot; I'm saying we need standards for that office. I don't think it's too much to ask that a gubernatorial candidate have a college degree.

I think that it depends on the circumstances for the individual (not even suggesting Wamp has special circumstances...just saying). I'm not completely disagreeing with you, I'm just not ready to make it a litmus test.

a college degree isn't required of the President, why should it be so for the governor of a state?

Have to agree with this. I think it should be a rare exception, but there are plenty of college grads that I wouldn't trust to feed my goldfish! :)

I'm saying that a person with only a high school diploma has no business being in that type of office. How many Presidents didn't go to college? Would you actually vote for one that didn't?

College grad or not, he's been in the public light for long enough that we should know what kind of politician he is.

I might be more inclined to vote for someone who didn't complete college if they had a proven track record as a successful executive. Being a Congressman is very different.

Bill Gates didn't go to college, neither did Rush Limbaugh nor Dale Earnhardt.

History is full of people who did extraordinary things despite not having a college degree.

And yes, I would vote for a President who didn't have one.

And how many were lawyers or at least attended law school? I think I would rather take my chances with the non degree.

Gates I could see as being capable. Somehow, I don't think using Rush Limbaugh and Earnhardt as examples change my mind much.

what does a college degree bring to the table? You may not like Rush and Earnhardt as examples, but neither would have reached the pinnacle of their respective professions without an incredible amount of drive and ability. Things that a college degree doesn't necessarily confer on somebody. I know people with masters degrees who are driving trucks.

I can point to at least 400 idiots in Washington DC that do have degrees, most of them law degrees.

Gates went but did not graduate. I'm also not voting for either Rush or #3 to run a state.
