“I think what’s exciting about Arion Carter, first off, is the combination of play-speed and physicality. The speed and striking power – the ability to play fast and physical as a linebacker – immediately popped off his senior video. Early in the season once his film started to get out and blow up with all these Power 5 offers when he was still committed to Memphis, it didn’t take very long to acknowledge that he’s a four-star prospect. The onslaught of recruiting attention he as getting was more than merited.
I think when you look at his profile as well, we love that he is a prolific running back. That’s something you see in common with a lot of top-linebackers, especially ones you end up seeing drafted high in the NFL. The two-way play-making ability most often as running back at the high school level are a lot of the times the best athletes at their school. I think it’s a way to showcase the athleticism and play-making ability – and honestly, physicality at running back as well. We love the Arion Carter is such a good all-around high school player, whether it’s with the ball in his hands or on defense.
I think he’s a big pick up for Tennessee. He was coveted by Alabama and several others. To keep him in-state, a guy who was one of the hottest prosects over the past couple of months in the 2023 cycle – to keep him in-state is a really big recruiting win down the stretch here.
There’s a lot to like about him as an addition to Tennessee’s linebacker room. Putting him behind that very strong defensive front and group of pass-rushers that Tennessee has recruited the past couple of cycles – I think it’s a great fit. Big recruiting win and I like Arion Carter a lot.”
