'25 TN LB Austin Howard (Vanderbilt commit)

Tennessee wants to add at least one more linebacker if not two more. That’s why Austin Howard is coming in this weekend. He is a tough one to figure out, but in talking to him, it is clear that he likes the recruiting process. He is committed to Mississippi State as of now, but we do not believe that will stick and a flip to either Vanderbilt or Tennessee seems most likely.

believe it more an issue of being granted the go ahead or not
I sort of wonder if this isn't going to end up being similar to the Sensabaugh recruitment where someone (in that case Mizzou, in this case Memphis, maybe Vandy) is going to be willing to pay a solid if-not-elite prospect way more than we are.

If he goes to Vandy it means he wasn’t a take. No kid is choosing Vandy over us. Even GMac didn’t do that and he’s a multi-generational Vandy legacy.
Uh oh, be careful. Famous last words.

Kid is a three star, Vandy owns three stars.

"Tom's Take: I think Vanderbilt is pushing harder than Tennessee right now. I see Clark Lea and his staff eventually landing him. That said, I believe the next few weeks gives the Volunteer staff an opportunity to figure out how they want to play it and whether or not they are going to go all-in. However, it also gives the Commodores staff a chance to take things up another notch. We'll see how both sides play it moving forward."

If he picks vandy, some ppl will lose it and candy fans will boast. When in reality, he probably wasnt a take
I think he’s a take but Vandy just wants him a lot more. They need him a lot more.

He looks the part but I don’t see him physically dominating the opponent like you see with Harmon. I’m fine with him going to Vandy

I don't think physicality will be a problem for Howard. He's bigger than Harmon too. In terms of his recruitment I think you hit it spot on with the first line. Vandy does do well with linebackers fwiw. He's going to be a good player for whichever program gets him

We really don’t pursue the 6’5 240lb thumpers at mike, I’m guessing because the amount of snaps they will be required to play.
All of our linebackers are 6’1-6’3 and in the 230-240 range. Pili is just as big as Josephs. Telander is 6’2 238. Carter is 6’1 235. Howard at 6’1.5 225 is exactly the type of LB we pursue

Edit: unless you were implying this is why we’re going after Howard, because he does fit our criteria
