TN is one of the Top 5 states for elite football recruits in 2020. 6 of the top 100 recruits in the initial 2020 class ranking.

The state of Tennessee continues to be an emerging talent hotbed leading the next tier of states with six names along with Maryland. In rough drafts of the ranking, Tennessee had as many as eight names in the tally.

TX/FL-13 recruits
GA-12
CA-10
TN/MD-6

With Nashville exploding, TN will continue to rise.

Difference being TN's state school successfully locks down the border.

That's becoming more questionable. With the influx of talent also comes a lack of loyalty to the state because most, to this point, weren't born and raised in TN. The population boom is great, and it has brought more talent within the borders, but a lot of those kids were born and raised in other parts of the country/region, so they don't have a natural bond to the state.

And, if we continue to do so, UT fortunes will rise as well...home-grown talent which understands what it means to play for home state cannot be undervalued!

This is true, but if we had 5 four star recruits in a year in the past maybe we signed 4 of them. Looking into the future we sign 8-10 of the 12-15 four stars that's still at least doubling the high end talent we pull in state every year.

We will lose more but we will sign way more as well.

True, the numbers may improve but the percentages will decrease. If the percentage drops, I can't call that locking down the borders.

I don't know what percentage would be considered locking down the borders but it doesn't matter to me. As long as we get most of who we want, which I think we will, its a much much better situation than what we had even 4-5 years ago. Only way for it to be a negative is to have a Dooley level recruiter.

Agree with that last sentence. Hopefully we never suffer through that again.

Citation needed. Where'd you get this from?

So we have more HS talent then Louisiana and Alabama? Eh, I dont know about that.

We've passed Alabama and are right there with Louisuana right now in terms of talent. However, if the current trends hold then we'll pass Louisiana and Ohio and become solidly the 5th best state in terms of football talent after the big 4 (Florida, Texas, Georgia, and California).

Imagine how good we can be in the 2020s if our instate recruits are as loyal to Tennessee as recruits in Louisiana are to LSU. We would be able to build perennial top 5 recruiting classes based solely on instate talent.

So recruiting base is officially eliminated as the reason we continue to trail Alabama. They even have to contend with Auburn getting good classes and splitting the talent, while we only have Vandy and Memphis scooping up the 2 and 3 stars.

I actually think we'll be the new LSU (at the very least) going forward. We'll be talked about as a top 5-10 job. And the right coach will be able to compete for national titles every year given the recruiting base we're about to have.

The 2020s could be an amazing decade for the Vols if Butch Jones can win a national championship in the next few years. Imagine all the kids who are 10-11 years old right now growing up. What Tennessee does over the next couple of seasons will form their perspective on the football program. If they see a Tennessee that is among the nations elite, then they'll grow to wanting to wear that power T. And by the time they become 17-18 years old they will be as loyal to the flagship instate school like Louisiana kids are to LSU.

The next couple of years are so critical for this program. We can literally form the framework to becoming one of the top teams of the 2020s.

This makes it all more important to have success over the next couple of years. These recruits will be keeping a close eye on the Vols.
