'20 TN OL Cooper Mays (UT SIGNEE)

Don't want. Mays name is nothing now in Tennessee. That goes for the entire family as far as i'm concerned. Better hope I don't see them in the streets. I'd walk right by them and say nothing and take a picture and show my wife who would half listen to what i'm saying and i wouldn't blame her for it.

Man I hope they don't see you in the streets if yer gonna take a pic and show yer wife. That is a bold threat.

Just trying to once again point out how the narrative that Georgia is losing 31 seniors is not relevant, because most of those 31 weren't contributors in 2017. The more relevant statistic is returning starters; and I would add returning players on the "two deep". I don't know if Georgia will be a better overall team in 2018 compared to 2017. I think some areas will be improved...OL, QB and TE...while other areas will not be as good...ILB for sure; and possibly RB if Zamir White doesn't get back to 100% in 2018.

Man I'll never hate on any fan of any sort but if you lose 31 seniors it is absolutely relevant even if not ALL were contributors. You ever heard of leadership or chemistry?? The fact that you said that is plain dumbassism. I would say the same thing to a fellow volfan FWIW

LOL so you hope you don't see them on the street just so you wouldn't say anything to them?

That sounds like the best plan action to show them they mean nothing to you. Please follow this plan.

Walk-ons not on scholarship have zero effect on chemistry. Seniors on scholarship who have never played a snap have no impact on chemistry. The reality is that roughly half of the 31 were career scout team players left over from the Richt era. The players that will be replacing them on the scout team are much more talented due to the way the new staff is building quality depth. Something Richt never did.

Having more 5* and 4* players on the scout team is going to make the overall team better. Bama's been doing it for years. One of the reasons Bama has had success stockpiling 5* and high 4* players is because their coaches do a good job of selling recruits on the "iron sharpens iron" narrative. A narrative that is actually based in truth. As Dan Mullen once said; 'Bama has more 5* players sitting on the bench than Miss State has starting'.

OK lol you win. Fact is y'all lost the best running back duo in sec history, the sec defensive player of the year, and several key starters. There is no way Georgia will be as good or better for that matter in 2018. Kirby can coach and you got a damn good quarterback but saying losing 31 seniors is irrelevant is insane.

When Cooper Mays first showed up on Tennessee’s campus back in late February, the 2020 offensive lineman from Knoxville Catholic (Tenn.) had a bit of an uneasy feeling.

Jeremy Pruitt and the new staff had already reaffirmed Cooper of his scholarship offer, but after his 5-star brother Cade Mays had spurned the hometown school, Cooper wasn’t sure how hard Tennessee would still recruit him.

Turns out, he had nothing to worry about.

“After something like that goes down, I felt a little bit awkward going there for the first time since Cade’s decommitment and then commitment (to Georgia), but the awkwardness was really just more on my end,” Mays explained.

“Like going in there, leading up to it, I was anxious because I didn’t know how it was going to work out, but it was refreshing to hear that I’m still a top priority for them.

“As soon as I got there, they didn’t bring it up or anything, acted like nothing even happened and just went along as business as usual.”

After getting some quality 1-on-1 time with Will Friend in February, Mays was back at Tennessee last week to watch a practice. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound center noticed a tangible difference in how the Vols go about their business under Pruitt compared to Butch Jones' staff. Mays described “a culture change” and a renewed sense of energy with the team.

“What really stood out to me was how intense the practice was,” he said.

“I was at practices with the last coaching staff, and it didn’t compare. This new staff has picked up it a notch with their intensity and everything. They just demand perfection.”

Mays, who is the youngest son of former Vols offensive lineman Kevin Mays, has begun to develop a relationship with Friend, saying, “He’s a really good guy. He’s really personable. More than that too, he’s a good coach that’s intense. I like that a lot. Off the field, he’s really personable and easy to talk to.”

In addition to Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Duke and Mississippi State have all offered scholarships to Mays, and on Tuesday, Florida and Auburn joined the list, too.

The Gators are trying to get Mays on campus this spring, but the 2020 prospect already has plans to attend UGA’s practice this Saturday and then be back at Tennessee on April 14.

Right now, Mays is happy is recruitment continues to grow without the shadow of his older brother.

"For a while a lot of people thought I was just getting interest because of Cade. Just as an extra enticement for him or whatever to get to come there," he said.

"But I really feel the love from Tennessee's new staff. They told me I’m a top priority even now that Cade is gone, which makes me feel really good about it all."

We all know the 31 number is overblown. But now guys like you are understating the very significant losses you guys are suffering. You’re losing key, upper class experienced and very productive players all over the place.....your two best running backs, your best wr, your best OL, your 2 best DEs, your best DT and your, by far, best LB who made incredible play after incredible play last year that covered up some defensive deficiencies many, many times.

There’s no doubt that you guys return a very talented team, by far the most talented one in the East.....but you’ll also lose a ton of leadership and continuity. Can the new leaders on the team re-create the attitude, confidence and overall synergy from your special 2017 season....I’d say that’s pretty unlikely. Still a ton of talent throughout your roster but you’ve had that before, many, many times, and you surely know that the intangibles are required to have the type of special season you had in last year.

You’ll be the odds on favorite to win the East and you should be....and you all but certainly will win it. But you shouldn’t laugh off the notion that you’re gonna take a step back in 2018 ..... cause it’s all but a certainty that 2018 ain’t gonna bring near the success for you that 2017. 10-3 and a significant bowl game is still a very good season and something Vols fans would kill for right now....and very likely what you’re gonna have to “settle” for this season. And as good as that is, it’s still a significant step back.

6’3” 255? Height will work, but got to put on some weight.

Don’t really care either way. There are certainly bigger, stronger, more talented 2020 OLs that we can sign. I personally won’t waste any energy worrying about where this kid ends up...won’t much matter to the Vols either way imo.
