'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

My first post and its on a Future OL. Kids tape looks pretty good even though he's young. Plays with a nasty streak that will serve him in the future. His father was the same way. He played with a Temper the whole game. He wouldn't stop a lot of times after the whistle.

I remember hearing stories that refs would pull him to the side and talk to him. LOL

Looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Welcome to VN

Good Lordy. It is not hard to truck someone when you are 290 in HS. How many kids did you know above 250 playing HS ball? I would hate lining up next to this guy each play. Great pickup. Hell, he will be 320 by the time he hits the field.

From 247:

“I’ve been thinking about it for a few weeks now and just discussed it with my family, and I think it’s the right fit for me,” said Cade Mays, who’s expected to be one of the top prospects from the state of Tennessee in the 2018 class.

“Tennessee’s got a lot going for them right now, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Mays has been high on Tennessee since getting his early offer from the Vols in June 2014 following a strong showing at one of their camps, but he said he “just recently” started to decide he wanted to play at Tennessee after attending its “Orange Carpet Day” on June 20.

The younger Mays said he attended the one-day recruiting event by himself while his parents were at the hospital for the birth of his younger brother, Camp, and the Vols made him feel right at home during the visit.

“I told my dad there’s nowhere else that I could go by myself and feel like it’s home,” said Mays, who recently narrowed his focus to Tennessee, Alabama, Florida State, Clemson and Texas A&M among the 11 teams that had extended offers to him.

He said he informed Tennessee coach Butch Jones of his decision while he was on campus Monday afternoon with his family.

“Coach Jones wanted to have me and my family down, and I just thought it was a good time to go ahead and pull the trigger,” Mays said. “I was there for two or three hours. I just ate lunch with the coaches, and then I went into Coach Jones’ office and we had a talk with my family, and I just told him.

“He said he got goosebumps.”

Sounds extremely mature for a freshman. This kid is going to absolutely maul people at his tackle spot with his excellent size and mean streak. Best part is that being only a freshman he will quite likely grow a little more and he hasn't even started putting on actual muscle mass.

This kid is going to play for a NC under Butch here at UT, I can just feel it.

I don't know much about the kid, but definitely excited he chose to be a vol already over some other big time colleges, and just a freshmen at that.
Is this a kid that has the potential to be like the top lineman or top 5 in the country?
Of course a long time to go, but he seems smart and we all know his frame is huge and he is at college size basically already. Kid could be the biggest OL in 18

All of this is JMO, so it's worth just about what you paid for it...absolutely nothing.

That said, I think it's waaaaay too early to tell on his ranking. There is some inherent risk involved with taking a kid this young. Sometimes they peak early and disappoint later, but the fact that he had so many major offers as a HS freshman speaks volumes about the potential these coaches see in him. He also earned his UT offer by impressing the coaches at camp last summer. That says a lot as well. We'll see what the next couple of years bring, but he definitely seems like a kid who projects early on to be VERY highly ranked. All the tools seem to be there. He just has to keep working hard and developing them. If he does that, the rankings will come.

Well put. Being that large and a High School Sophmore, I would guess also brings the chances of injury or knee problems into play too.

I hope the young man blows up big time and kills it for the Orange and White though.

It's pretty obvious to most HS coaches when they have a big time Div 1 prospect on their hands. He was probably trucking fools the moment he stepped on the field.

247 talked to his coach. He said he has had several top college coaches tell him they expect him to be a top 10 overall kid in Class of 2018 and #1 OT. That's a ways away and a projection but tells you what the big boys think he will become.

Also said Coach Jake called him after Cade camped as an 8th grader and told him they have never seen anything like it and went on and on about what kind of player that HS coach was about to get the next year
