'18 TN OL/DL Cade Mays (Transfer)

5 Star Challenge...

"2018 star Cade Mays was the No. 1 seed for eventual winner Team Spotlight and spent the night tossing opposing defensive linemen. Mays is a baby-faced assassin, and when the light comes on it doesn’t matter who his opponent is or where they’re ranked, he brings the pain. Mays also tested well in agility drills and looks like one of the class of 2018’s top overall linemen."

Here's what Rivals had to say about 5 star Jaelan Phillips, Ucla commit and #23 overall player in '17 class...

"It’s not that newly minted five-star Jaelan Phillips had a bad overall night, but he struggled mightily during one-on-ones. Mays gave him problems on several occasions, tossing him to the ground on back-to-back matchups during the scoring competition. He made up for it during agility drills as he showed the athleticism that makes him a special prospect, but he will need to continue to improve his technique in order to keep his status."

This kid is by far the most day 1 ready OL I've seen. And I mean as of right now. I was very impressed with all that I saw yesterday. Helps when you hv a dad that was a dawg too.

Crazy to think what he's going to do to high schoolers this year.

Also, our entire starting OL could be from Tennessee in a few years potentially.

Sometimes it ain't about a very good to great player "having a bad overall night" or "struggling mightily". It's about the other player simply out matching him...just being BETTER overall, in a sense.

"Cade Mays is one of the toughest offensive linemen you'll ever meet, despite his baby-faced appearance and laid back personality. Once the whistle blows, he sets out to not only win reps, but dominate them. He spent the weekend tossing some of the highest ranked players aside and showed excellent strength and technique to go along with impressive size. Mays would like to play tackle at the next level and has impressive versatility, but right now he looks like a future elite player at the guard position."

Guard sounds about right with this kid.

I could see us rolling out:

LT - Trey Smith (Jr.)
LG - Venzell Boulware (RS Sr.)
C - someone
RG - Cade Mays (RS Fr.)
RT - Marcus Tatum (RS Jr.)

in 2019.

It will be interesting to see who becomes our Center after Thomas. Last year and in the spring they seemed to be cross training Jack Jones. He seems to be built in a similar mold as Thomas, but he'd need a redshirt to still be around in 2019 and who knows if he'd be up for that.

No Drew Richmond? Or did you have him leaving after a RS JR year?
