One that almost got away was Nic Moore. Moore was going to pull the trigger for West Virginia out of nowhere with people in Jeff County and at Tennessee unaware. The Mountaineers had convinced him that he was too short to play offensive line and his future was on the defensive line. Patriot head coach Spencer Riley was out of town that day helping his daughter with her softball visits as an Ole Miss transfer. Riley called Moore and told him to not do anything until he got back to town that night and drove straight to see his offensive lineman. Riley was able to convince Moore to take the Tennessee visit that weekend and the rest is history. Just like the coaching tenure in Morgantown for Neal Brown.
