'25 TN QB George MacIntyre (Tennessee)

He's defnitely not as smooth an athlete as Nico (few are) and so all his stuff looks a little herky-jerky imo and he was clearly AMPED lol, like above poster said. Every quibble I have with him so far is coachable though, especially with a legit QB guy like CJH. Zero complaints really, just keep stacking the talent and it'll shake out.

If im being honest, both Merk and Gmac are bridge qbs to Faizon Brandon, I think he will end up beating both of them out for the starting job. And that’s not a shot at Gmac/Merk, I just think Brandon is that good and is going to be a gamer
Merklinger will going into his Jr year, George his Soph.

Nico RS his first year.

I dont think they will put him in that position.

I just don’t see Nico leaving after next season, like a lot of fans think.

Next season:
Nico RS Soph
Merk RS Fr
Gmac FR

Nico and Merk will get majority of the meaningful reps with Mac getting little time here and there.

Season After:
Nico RS Jr (his final season imo)
Merk RS Soph
Gmac RS Fr
Faizon FR

Season after Nico:
Merk RS Jr.
Gmac RS Soph
Faizon RS Fr.

I think Merk takes the job here because by this time he will know the offense playbook like the back of his hand, he would also have the most game experience over the others. We know Hype values seniority.

If Merk wins the job, does GMac wait till his senior year to play? If GMac does take over for Merk, does Faizon wait till his senior season? I doubt it.

Ultimately, I think GMac will be the odd man out.

I have liked what I have seen of Merklinger so far as a prospect. He is nothing near a finished product, of course. But between the spring game and the couple times he’s gotten in this season (plus the Polynesian Bowl) I think he has a lot to work with and will develop nicely. The ball looks a lot better coming out of his hand than it did Harrison Bailey’s. And he’s clearly athletic.

But that’s my opinion and it’s based on a small sample size. When Nico leaves after 2025, we’ll have Merk in his 3rd year, GMac in his 2nd, and Brandon in his 1st. Out of that group, we’re gonna have a good QB.

My bigger concern is who’s coaching our defense by then, because Banks will likely be a HC somewhere.

Nick will likely be the top overall prospect in the draft as soon as he’s draft eligible. Of course he’ll leave.

If Nico is what we all think/expect/hope him to be, he will 100% be gone after next season.

Nico’s nil deal is for 3 years, and he said he was only staying 3 years when he committed

Generally speaking, I wouldn't put a ton of stock in what a 16/17 year old kid says when he commits. They all think they'll be 1st round picks in 3 years. Now, in Nico's case, however, it's probably going to come to fruition. If he continues on this current trajectory, there is absolutely no reason to stay for his rJR season.

And the great part is, he can leave early after his RSSo. campaign, be the 1-1 pick in the NFL Draft, and I'm not at all worried about the QB position in 2026. That's what Josh Heupel has done with this program.

you don’t think Nico will be one of the best draft eligible qbs next year? just curious who all you think will be better than him next year besides maybe arch

That’s the thing, I don’t know.

Like I said after this, it’s honestly not fair to say anything right now about him considering he hasn’t even played his first road SEC game.

if he isnt a projected 1st round pick then I could see him retire another year, but i think we’d have to offer more nil

Oh, definitely. And if we can offer, for example, say $4 mil for another year, similar to how we kept Hooker (at a much lower figure, obviously), then I'd bet he considers it as opposed to a 2nd or 3rd rd grade. Unless he just falls on his face between now and then, though, I can't see him not being a 1st rounder, though. He just has everything the NFL values; arm talent, size, maturity, IQ, vision, etc. The NFL just covets QBs so badly, and are increasingly willing to overdraft them such that guys like Kenny Pickett, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones went 1st round.
