'24 TN WR Amari Jefferson (Tennessee)

I agree I have never said that. I was replying to newt, who was implying that no kids cared about playing for their state school. I simply said that is not always the case. I don’t have a mandate on where our players come from. Common sense just says it we are winning we will get our share of instate players we are after. Of course we are a national brand and will always recruit nationally, you have to if you’re going to compete in the sec. GBO
I was implying that a kid wanting to leave his home state to go to college is not unusual. Common sense says go after your needs, regardless of zip codes.

what coaches show?
I should have worded that differently…. It was an interview with I think coach Golesh and they were talking about recruiting.. He was talking about mending things between Tennessee and instate High Schools/coaches… He talked about how they would be visiting schools…. Even ones that didn’t typically produce Div 1 talent. The reason instate is important is bc those kids are usually more receptive to becoming Vols…. Doesn’t mean that you take guys that aren’t rated high on your board… it just means that you want to be able to get the 3-8 guys from the state that you identify as a priority. Then he mentioned 5-6 hours away from school bc those guys are usually pretty receptive to your message…. Outside of that…. There are usually a few that may be listen to the possibility of becoming a Vol…. Missouri is an example of a team that fails to get the guys instate that they want…. It’s not the end of the world if we miss on this guy nor have I seen anyone overreacting like some claim.

I have never said otherwise. I was responding to your comment that basically said high school players don’t care about the state school. All I was saying is a there are some that do in every state. Doesn’t mean they won’t go out of state. I was saying usually a sec school that is thriving will get their share of the ones that can help the team. Of course we will always recruit nationally, it’s very important. When we have been our best we were landing some of the best nationally and getting 4-5-6 of the state’s best players as well. Just like us having to go into Florida, Louisiana and Georgia to find players. It’s tough to pull their best players out of their home state by we manage to pull a few, and we will always lose a few of our own. I am sure Coach Heupel would agree, we want to recruit strong nationally and have a good connection in our own state to get a share of the best from it. GBO

You haven't seen over reacting? What forum you on?

You’re right on Marlon brown. Better memory than I. Must be all that reefer I been ripping from unblessed bongs. @Thunder Good-Oil

Think his name was something hunter? Had to be butch era. Nvm, fact checked myself and it was Justin Maclin in 2010 who I was thinking of, who was actually another from memphis. There was jacob phillips in same year as Steven’s who also went lsu, but we didn’t really recruit him. Believe notre dame got a couple types like this too.

The fact that we have to piece together the ones we missed versus the ones we know we hit on supports your and my view. And the misses across the state will drop as our momentum builds.

Phillips is the other one I was trying to think of. Butch didn’t think he was a fit for our defense. 🙄

Sounds like it has been a good weekend for the Vols with five-star WR Mike Matthews and four-star WR Amari Jefferson. They were clearly two of the biggest priorities for Tennessee going into the weekend, and I think the Vols have impressed both of those guys and at least should have some positive momentum coming out of the weekend.

“Everything is in a good spot right now with Tennessee,” Jefferson said. “I have a good connection with all the coaches. Coach Pope, coach Heup (Heupel), coach Halzle they kind of walked it out for me showing me where I would play, how they would used me and stuff like that. It was a pretty good weekend.”
“They would use me as a combo guy,” Jefferson said. “They would play me inside and out. My quickness as an inside guy and being able to take the top off the defense on the outside.”
