To all those doubting Gruden will come coach us, I simply ask, why do you think he won't?

Personally, I think it is plausible. I don't necessarily think it is probable but, I do think it's possible.

I don't think he's going to Dallas and be Jerry Jones puppet. Jerry Jones has only hired guys that aren't head strong and whom he knows he can micromanage.

I don't think he's going to San Diego. San Diego is in athletically soft southern Cal and aren't as passionate about their sports as major programs such as SEC footabll and other pro team cities such as New York, Boston, Chicago, Philly, etc...

I don't think he'll coach the Jets if Rex Ryan's fired. No logic to this one, just not a great fit IMO.

The only wild card is the Eagles job.

I don't think he will coach NFL period to be honest. He has been to the top of the mountain and anything less could be critiqued as failure.

What could be more appealing than a fan base he views as passionate? We all know the "intangibles" such as his wife's family, familiarity with the city, being a grad asst., etc... is not a determent. So it would be convenient at the least.

So with so many pros why do you side with all the cons?

There is no real reason why he would coach UT. He has a great job. He is an NFL guy and he can get an NFL job anytime. Obviously he likes the NFL and likes MNF. Don't think he is gonna give all that up to come to live in Knoxville and coach the Vols...Save yourself some heartbreak and quit thinking he is gonna coach the Vols...

Its official! Gruden basically just mentioned he's signed with UT to be the next coach!

proof: on MNF, he mentioned Reggie White, and he was also a Vol.

Done deal!

I don't get the lovefest for Gruden. This hire will be Kiffin 2.0. He will be here only as a stepping stone to an NFL job, if even that long. But, people won't understand that until he gives UT the middle finger like Kiffin did.

Gruden doesn't need a stepping stone to an NFL job. All he needs is a cell phone.

The attraction for him to UT is the chance to win the biggest and hardest to get prize in football -- the SEC Championship.

We could have special $10 "Gruden dogs" at the games. For every Gruden dog sold, a $5 salary donation would be made to the Gruden foundation of winning.

Gruden will have plenty of other job opportunities in the NFL that fit in his wheel house better than taking a job as a college coach. I'm still not convinced that he wants to leave his MNF position yet like many other ppl think.

Honestly, how do you know that? Do you really know how many teams have been knocking on his door for him? Maybe he hasn't been coaching because no one wants him. That's the theme for Fulmer (which no one really knows either).

WHAT??? Do you really believe Gruden needs a stepping stone to the NFL??? I don't believe Gruden will come to UT for a number of reasons but most of all coaching College is a year long grind. NFL has more money and an offseason! Important to a guy with a cushy espn job.

I sure hope Gruden saves the day but I'm not counting on it. My son asked why would John Gruden want to Coach the Vols when we are at an all time Low? I have to ask myself the same question, why would any big name winning coach want to take on this huge task of rebuilding the Vols in the most competitive conference in the Country? The only answer I can think of is $Big Money or just the tremendous challenge.

If you follow MNF you would have noticed he talks alot about Reggie!! He has said before the best DE to play the game!! Nothing to do with UT job just respect for the best DE to ever play the game!!

He has not been coaching cause the bucs have been paying him. If he took another coaching job he forfeit the money they owed him.

Then why hasn't he been coaching? Not heard of any teams banging on his door for his services...

You are right about Philly and according to some it may be between us and them if he gets back into coaching.

Someone needs to remind him of the Keyshawn sideline incident. According to those close to him this really soured him on coaching pro players for a while.
