So I'm gonna talk to my uncle in Nashville who works for Gibson about picking up a guitar for my grad present. Not sure which one though. Just put in your votes for your favorite.

SG Standard

Les paul standard. Just cause I personally know its a good guitar. But you can't go wrong with any of them.

They are all great and you will be happy with any of them but I would get the Firebird V.

The Firebird is the coolest guitar ever made IMO

All have their merits but the LP Standard is such a workhorse and the source of so many great performances its hard to go wrong.

I had an SG and its fun but nowhere near as versatile as the LP.

With a strat, a Les Paul, a Fender Twin Reverb and a Marshall amp you've pretty much covered the history of rock n' roll.

They're good but Fender stuff is hard to come by around here. Guiter Center's contracts with Fender really put the squeeze on local businesses. Carrying Fender is impossible anymore because of the ridiculous quantities of product a store has to stock on-floor. I gotta go with a Gibson anyways, 'cause that's where the connection is.

Nice. I still have a Squier Strat, my first guitar from a few years ago. I upgraded the pickups, neck assembly and bridge assembly though. And re wired the thing myself. The wiring sucked.

I love the EC version I have. The new noiseless pick-ups are great-very sweet.

While I like the active electronics it has in the tone pots, it eats 9-volt batteries like crazy! I almost rather not have them because when the batt. is dead nothing works.

Save yourself some money, hun, and learn to play the washboard. It worked for CCR. :biggrin2:

Nice graduation present, man. I'd go with the LP. Of course, you'll feel like a Neyland Coke vendor with the weight around your neck, but ahhhhhh, the classic look and sound.

On a side note, I'm still saving up for the T5.

CCR, what a great band, I think I will listen to them now.

I'm not worried. I already play a big ol' semi-hollow body weighing in at a mean 9.5 pounds. A Les Paul would be nothing if not relief on my left shoulder.

For a little more you can get a 57 RI historic which in the long run is a much better guitar. Hard to beat unless you have 300k for a 59 burst.

So have you decided yet Milo?

I saw the Alman Bro.s on Sunday night. Derek Trucks was wailing on an SG most of the night while Warren Haynes mostly used a Les Paul.

Both sounded outstanding but the LP seemed to have a deeper and more soulful tone when in the neck position pick-up. Both screamed and both sounded great with a slide.

Surfside if you're reading this - during the encore they played Nobody Left to Run with Anymore and on the screen behind the stage they showed a bunch of photos of Barry Oakley and your boy Duane.

I decided to go with an LP. I'm not the one shelling out for it, so I sent my parents these four...

Les Paul Standard Double Cut Plus (decided on a different color - Trans-Red finish):

Les Paul Standard (Ebony finish):

Les Paul Standard Limited Edition (Manhattan Midnight finish):

This next one is a bit more of a stretch, but I've always had and affinity for this type of Les Paul... pretty expensive but maybe.

Custom shop Les Paul Custom with a flame maple top in a heritage cherry sunburst finish:

They all look great! The Heritage Cherry and Goldtop are the two monsters of rock.

I've always been partial to the Les Paul Classic - I guess I just like the look of the uncovered humbuckers.
