When members of a family go through adversity, you remain strong,” he wrote in a text message. “You can name a lot of negatives about the program right now but you can name some very important positives, such as me being the leader I am and a first-class kid on and off the court that I can have a greater impact in turning this situation around in a more positive way than it is now, not only with basketball but with everything else.”

I'm trying to decide who is my favorite 2010 prospect. Him or Michael Taylor.

Wow, sounds like a very mature kid. I can't wait to see him in UT orange!

We're lucky to get him. A very mature young man from what I've seen so far.

I hope Tobias lives up to his reputation on and off the court. He sounds like he will be a leader and a postive influence on this team. Still sad that a High School Senior has a better head on his shoulders than a Tyler Smith who is a College Senior and father. Hope he can learn from Tobias. Go Vols.

There's some 5th graders who have better character than Tyler Smith.

100% agree. Harris has become my favorite b-ball Vol.

We need more players with this attitude. We have a lot of physical talent but very little mental. Hopefully with a player like Harris we can attract more of the right kind of guys.

Good post. I guess Tyler will be in Europe before he gets the chance to learn from this young man. I like this Tobias kid already. Just what our team needs, IMO.

Great to read from Tobias. Sounds like a great young man with a good head on his shoulders. Sounds like he can be a great leader and example for the program.

Yea because great guys drive around Knox smoking weed & have a gun up under their seat.

When they have a kid to worry about it makes it even worse. Tyler may be a nice guy, but he's made some horrible decisions for himself and his family

Exactly, he was suppose to be a team leader & a role model to his son.

Tyler Smith was my favorite player on the team until this happened. I know people make mistakes in life, but what those 4 men chose to do is plain stupidity & embarrassing not only for them & their families but for the University of Tennessee, Coach Pearl, & their teammates that choose to do the right things on & off the court.

Absolutely false. Tyler Smith is a great guy. How about you meet someone and talk to them before you judge them.

O yea excuse me. I have forgotten the very definition of what a great guy is. Obviously choosing to drive around knoxville with guns, alcohol, and weed the morning after partying at the malibu while he could spend time with his son and girlfriend is a great example of how upstanding of a guy he is.

Well some people may think youre a bad person for judging someone you don't know it goes both ways.

Absolutely ridiculous. Being nice to you (or me, or anyone) does not excuse carrying illegal firearms, and making selfish decisions that are bad for his family. Not to mention being a 'nice guy' never means you are a good person.
