Tobias Harris

I think the Horford contract will be an albatross. Richardson (assuming the Heat trade goes through) is underpaid and he will get a huge bump next contract. Either the 76ers will pay or have to let him go. Simmons will soon be off rookie deal and getting huge salary bump. Embiid at some point may be eligible for super max deal. Factoring in all that, $36MM a year for a non Top 20 NBA player in 3 years may be too much without a huge luxury tax bill....

Tobias is smart. He turned down $80mm from Clippers last year and def. took advantage of there being more teams willing to spend than high end players to spend on

Horford has the potential to be bad.... the rest will be fine.... they are working on the Ben extension right now.... josh Harris stayed he is not worried about the luxury tax....they have an excellent shot at a championship and that is what it is all about.

Like I said earlier, the 76ers franchise clears 70mil a year after paying players, not to mention the 1.5 billion dollars in value that the franchise has accrued in only 8 years. They will be fine and I agree that they are looking for a championship (which of course will markedly increase the value of the franchise and increase revenue)

The 76ers overpaid for Horford.

They also have an SEC flavor with Florida, LSU and Tennessee represented on their roster.

Right about what? 180 million over 5 years is too much for him? Compared to what? 5 years 225 million that GSW could have offered Durant? IT seems your are suggesting teams were looking to get rid of Tobias by trade. I read it as better teams went after Tobias in trade to make their team better. He was the best player on the Clippers and he greatly improved Philadelphia. Look again at those numbers. He was the top scorer in multiple games for Philly when they have arguably 3 max contract players in Butler, Embid and Simmons. He is the prototypical modern NBA player, a tall wing who can shoot the three and play D, but with added physicality. I agree that it is a lot of money in general, but the 76ers franchise is worth 1.7 billion after being bought for 270million in 2011. They gross nearly 70 million a year after player salaries. Even though Simmons is a star, he can't shoot. Butler is gone and Embid is injury prone. JJ Reddick is gone as well. They needed Tobias and I think they are paying him what the market demands.
I’m not saying Tobias is a bad person or player, but the Clippers traded him because they didn’t want to pay him 5 years for 180. On the Jump it was mentioned that everyone says he is a great guy, but they trade him because they don’t want to pay him (teams either don’t believe he can take his game to the next level or sustain the level he is playing at).

I understand. Philly has determined that he is worth it. His production over the past 5 years has been impressive and constant, and he is still only 26. I don't remember when but I know that the current player assoc deal is up for renegotiation in the next few years. In 3 years, 180mil x 5 years might seem like a steal. I think he may be a better gamble than Embid due to Emdid's questionable durability. I still think this contract seems more reasonable than paying Durant 164 over 4 years when he will only play 3. That is 20 million a year more than Tobias. Hell, that is Tobias and Horford for the same price as a post achilles ruptured Durant. Seems like a gamble.

People like me? Why don't you slow your role a little. You don't know a damn thing about me. Sorry you hate to see him paid for his skill. I wonder what really bothers you about someone getting pain 180 mill to "dribble a basketball"? Hmmm. And are you suggesting if he wasn't getting that money that it would be going to the doctors in Africa? I am a doctor and I couldn't make that money in 20 lifetimes, but it isn't because he is taking that money away from me. I am sure the people of Philadelphia are honored at your concern for their tax dollars. But I believe their arena was mainly funded privately and cost less than 300 million and is the home to 4 pro teams, 2 major. If you don't think the city benefits from the revenue generated by that then what can anyone say to you. I think you issues are more deep seeded than tax dollars.

Deeper seeded.....

Oh please, do go into in deeper detail.

I gotta hear this.

Agree. My comment about the contracts being bad is what happens in 2-3 years if they don't win AND keeping this core together and build depth around it costs the team 9 figures of luxury tax annually. You dont mind luxury tax if you are the Warriors but if you are the Rockets, you will get sick paying 9 figures at some point...

Of course, every NBA team has rapidly appreciated in the past several years. Robert Pera would double his investment if he sold the Grizzlies tomorrow and they have been mismanaged horribly for the most part (until this offseason).

Nice reply. He’s the one that doesn’t understand how this works.

Wow he’s pretty good but not that good lol... man these NBA contracts are totally rediculous... ticket prices are too.... 180 million? That’s insane...
I am a teacher and I only make 170 million in my contract. Pretty messed up.

Meanwhile there are doctors in Africa fighting Ebola and risking their lives for hardly any money but yeah 20 points and 7.8 rebounds is worth 180 million.

These contracts are being paid by your cable tv subscription so when your cable bill is 200 a month understand why.
Or it could be because people are tired of how expensive cable/dish/etc is so they have cut the cord. It's sad that people are actually complaining that a VFL (who is a great ambassador for our program got paid big money).

Peyton was #1 in 98. Not sure which George you’re referring to. Eddie? He was not #1

1940. George Cafego was the #1 pick. Turn in your Vol Card.

He never had a high dollar contract, but when he retired UT gave him a used van that the Lady Vols had used. He just left it were it sat.

I wouldn’t have even guessed they had a NFL draft in 1940

Speaking of Vol vehicles, I wonder where the 1960s Cushman is that Gus (Manning) used to shuttle around campus. That thing needs to be in a museum and not discarded in a surplus property auction.

Bob Johnson was the first EVER draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in 1968. But he was just the 2nd overall selection.
