Raleigh was a very poor hire by MH. It is hard to understand how/why MH thought a coach at WCU could cut it at a major school.

How's the basketball coach he hired from Wisconsin-Milwaukee to coach at "a major school" doing?

He is far better than expected. Actually has put UT on the national basketball map. If the improvement continues over the next 5 years, then the Vols could be a team that contends for a NC. JMO.

The difference is that Pearl was GREAT at UW-Milwaukee...his last team there made the Sweet 16....Raleigh had barely a .500 record at WC....it's not even a comparison

Fine, but that wasn't the question. The question ws about the size of the school, which, to your point, is irrelevant.

The problem has much less to do with where he came from than where he is and what he is doing. Everyone started somewhere. Unless he pulls off at least an SEC Tournament appearance he should be fired. This team was picked to finish at the bottom of the SEC, but in year three that really is starting to reflect on Raleigh and not the players. There has been no improvement at all since the time Raleigh got here. Next.

Pull the trigger Mike, take your mulligan, and let's move the program forward, this coach is an embarrassement. The bleeding must stop!

The point isn't where he came from (there are great coaching at all size school and all divisions throughout the 'AA, NAIA, & JUCO), but the fact that he wasn't particularly great there, and CERTAINLY not great here.
I would love to see Raleigh have an opportunity to go through SEC play and have a chance before being canned.
As for the next coach, I would love to see UT look to an even smaller school. Some of tomorrow's best and brightest (as well as some who have been around for a while, just haven't caught the big break yet) coaches are putting in their time at smaller NAIA and D2 schools. If Hammy can find someone who can recruit, develop, and WIN on a consistent basis at a smaller school, he will no doubt do well at UT.

I don't think it will happen, but I believe Coach Griffin at Carson-Newman would do an excellent job......

Tom Griffin is a damn good coach.

Wouldn't be a good fit at UT, though.

In some areas I believe Griff would have to make some adjustments to be an exact fit, but I believe he were if given the same opportunities as Raleigh, UT would be in a far better place than they are now.

The problem wasn't hiring a coach from WCU, or any other mid major program.

The problem was hiring an average coach that had done nothing to warrant such a job.

His style of play and philosophy would be eaten alive in big time D1 baseball.

You may very well be right, but I'd still love to see him (or another coach in a similar position) have that opportunity.

Regardless of who Hammy's next choice is, I hope he does his homework a little better than last time......

Former WCU coach Jack Leggett went on to do some nice things don't you think?

Jack Leggett has raised Clemson to dizzying heights of mediocrity. All those non-CWS trophies...All those disappointing ACC finishes.

But yes, compared to Todd Raleigh, Jack Leggett is a genius.

Wait a minute.....I think I figured it out....I think I just discovered why so many non-baseball people think Jack Leggett is a genius. He has somehow managed to only be compared with idiots.

If I started a staff today as a head coach, Tom Griffin would be the first choice for coaching the catchers.

There's not a better coach in the entire Southeast and probably farther when it comes to catchers than Tom.

Yeah, I lot of people were scratching their head when he got hired. I think he had a .580 winning % he brought from the other program.
