Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher?

Jim Caviezel all day. His role in Person of Interest is already similar, and he's great in it.

Tom Cruise is a douchetologist.

I started to type that about Jim Caviezel, that he could literally play the John Reece character and that could be Reacher.

Wuhahahaha. :)

If it was some other short guy, no one would care.

It being Cruise doesn't help but imagine Darth Vader being played by some 5'9" guy. I mean, that's just NOT Vader. The "big and imposing just standing there" part matters to the character.

Granted these considerations are mostly held by the "purists" who are familiar with the character as portrayed in the books but yeah...those people would (and do) care.

Guess I'm in the minority.

Doesn't bother me if he jumps around like an idiot on Oprah. Doesn't make him any less of a good actor in my book. Top Gun, Days Of Thunder, Interview With A Vampire, A Few Good Men, Jerry McGuire, Risky Business, Mission Impossible, The Last Samurai, Collateral, Knight and Day... I liked them all. Cocktail and The Outsiders were okay. I don't really remember Minority Report, Vanilla Sky, The Firm, Rain man or Magnolia, should probably go back and watch them. I turned Eyes Wide Shut and Valkyrie off. Didn't think War of the Worlds was that great. Still haven't seen Tropic Thunder and don't think I plan on seeing Rock of Ages since it's a musical?

All in all, he's done quite a few movies I like. Days of Thunder and The Last Samurai are underrated. Interview With A Vampire is awesome, it's too bad kids today like garbage vampire movies. I have never and will never see Twilight or any of that crap. Two other vampire movies I love are from Dusk Til Dawn and John Carpenter's Vampires. I watched those two so many times as a kid, been a while though. Vampires with James Woods was one of my favorites. Think I'm gonna go back and watch it along with Interview With A Vampire.

Anyways, to each their own. I understand if people don't like him simply because they don't like his movies or whatever but him jumping around on couches, getting mad over being squirted with water, being a scientologist etc. doesn't really bother me any. I still enjoy his movies and like his acting. And hey, it's not so bad in comparison to a number of other celebrities or athletes. People pay many to watch and cheer for rapists, murderers, cheaters, wife beaters and dog killers every Sunday. If the worst thing someone does is act like a weirdo, meh.

Dude, take the time and watch Vanilla Sky again. One of my favorites, and Cruise kills it. Also, like I stated earlier, I thought Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was one of the best action movies I had seen in years (until I saw Skyfall).

I enjoyed the movie. Not as good as Skyfall or Ghost Protocol, but a solid effort from Cruise and a decent storyline.

Go see the matinee, or wait for Redbox.

I know I am in the minority here, no pun intended, but The Rock would do pretty good I believe...around the same height and weight I believe...

So who "should" play Reacher? First question; how old should he be portrayed? By the book Reacher was born in the 60's so if we're going that route we'd have to go with someone that could at least pull off mid-40's or is that not as important as the rest of it? Otherwise someone like Hemsworth might make a good fit. Lundgren might be almost perfect just standing there but the acting chops are iffy.

I'd have made a hard run at Joe Manganiello. Very good physical match and the fact the chicks would dig him couldn't hurt ticket sales.

My "wild card" would be Rory McCann, better known as The Hound on Game of Thrones. I'm not certain about his ability as an actor to pull off a lead but he suits my "image" of Reacher pretty well.
Who is the tall blonde actor who played one of the guards in Green Mile? I thought he would have made the best Reacher because he is big, somewhat quiet, etc.

I found the movie to be lame.

*SPOILER*

This extravagant of a murder scheme over a construction company? Retarded! Plus the final fight scene was straight out of 80s tv. Reminded me of The A Team tv series.

Tom Cruise really showed his age in this movie. I think buying the rights to this story was s great move financially, but him starring in it was a car move financially.

Finally getting around to reading the books...and now there is definitely no way I can take the movie seriously whenever I see it. While he is a decent 'action star', Cruise is one of the worst possible choices to play Reacher.

If there are other Reacher movies made, I really, really hope they recast (and potentially reboot, depending on how this one played out).

He is a fine actor, but doesn't quite fit the physical mold. He's a lean 6'2" and Reacher is a thick, muscular 6'5". I think Kevin Durand would be a good physical match, and might just have enough acting chops to make it work.

David Morse would have been my choice. He's 6' 4", blue eyed and has the quiet demeanor.

He would have been a great (if not perfect) choice if the movie were 15-20 years ago; but he's pushing 60 right now.
