Vertical: 31 inches
Shuttle: 4.26 secs
GPA: 3.4
Class: 2009 (High School)

Rivals100 (24) 4* (6.0)

TN offered on Tuesday. His coach likes Clawson, so he's going to give Clawson a chance. Clawson will have his hands full with this one, as Savage holds offers from: FSU, Georgia, LSU, Lou, Miami, PSU, Pitt, Rutgers, UT, Virginia. Savage has already been on campus and likes the lay out a lot, calling it a 'beautiful place'. He definitely has interest in us, in fact he called us an 'elite program'. This one should be an interesting recruitment. Check out his film is you haven't yet.

Well, seems like a solid prospect from the video. Put the ball in the right spot for the most part. The only problem I saw was him throwing it into double coverage a lot. A little bit of coaching and this guy could be a star.

Has very good pocket presence. He says the QB coach will be a very important factor so Clawson knowing his coach should help us. We're offering him late but I think we still have a really good chance at this kid.

Once I saw the words "Pro-style" I had read enough. I thought we were getting something fresh and new with the new staff on offense.

So Tennessee must run a spread now?

Don't you really like UGA's chances of winning the East this season?

USC really has a problem choosing between Mustain or Sanchez.

Damn Mallett is going to be terrible at Arkansas.

Thank God Brian Brohm didn't come to Tennessee. He sucked in college.

We hired a guy who runs a pro style offense. If you were expecting a dramatic change you will be disappointed.

UGA and USC have more depth than UTK. Arky will still be their usual sucky selves, losing 3-4 games or more. The slip in recruiting 2 out of the last 3 years indicates that UTK is not going to have the depth nor the elite playmakers to win championships with the pro-style. Every DC worth his salt knows how to defend it and if you don't have vastly superior athletes you will lose games running it. So, yeah, I do think that some version of the spread is what it is going to take for UTK to win the SEC for the near future.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Seems like all I heard about when Claw was hired was his fresh ideas and using whatever scheme it takes to get the ball in the hands of playmakers. Are you telling me that was all just window dressing? If they were just going to retread the same old offense they should've hired the Michigan coaches who at least have more recruiting contacts.

Playmakers aren't limited to athletic QBs and WRs running speed options.

Look at what Clawson did with Brian Westbrook or the success his offenses had everywhere he's coached.

If you honestly think that Tennessee doesn't have talent at WR, TB or QB then I don't know what to tell you.

Late? It's March, signing day isn't for another 11 months.

If this is true then we have about 2-3 months to get this kid. Hopefully he starts this class off on the right foot.

I don't know what the Vols have at QB. I have only seen one of the three guys on the depth chart play in limited situations and the results were mixed. UTK has had serviceable tailbacks lately but it has been awhile since we saw the likes of Travis Henry, Travis Stephens, Chuck Webb, Jay Graham, Jamal Lewis, etc. Last year's starters at WR I would also classify as serviceable but I realize that there are a couple of guys pushing for more playing time who have the speed and height to be special if they can get the routes and timing down and keep a handle on the ball. Now it MAY be that Crompton or Coleman is the next Shuler/Manning and Creer is the next All SEC Vol RB, and Paige, Abrams-Ward, Fowlkes or others rise to the level of a Meachem, Pickens or Harper, but that is a lot if "ifs" to have when you want to win championships in the SEC.

Tennessee returns a 1,200 yard rusher and a 1,000 yard WR. 5 OL starters returning. Not a lot of what ifs.

The front 7 and QB play are the questions.

If you want to cheer for a team installing the spread, check out auburn. If you want to cheer for the Vols, cheer for Crompton, Foster, Taylor, etc... You don't have to run the spread to get the ball in the hands of playmakers. I'm excited to see what happens in our "new" Pro-Style Offense. This style of offense isn't called "Pro-Style" for no reason. It's what the Pros use and that is one reason we are able to recruit the Lennon Creers and Gerald Jones type of players.

If the Vols were still getting large numbers of 4 and 5* prospects from all over the country based on being an NFL development program, then I would agree with what you suggest here, but the undeniable fact is that two out of the past three years recruiting has slipped and I do not see any elite prospects jumping on the bandwagon for 2009 yet either.

VH, what was our recruiting rank the year before last? Since you put so much stock into 4* & 5*'s, this one should be a no brainer.
