I want to know do you agree with Tony on his point that CCM should be out in the media garnering public support or do you care less about what he does with the media as long as his focus is putting a winning product on the court?

Cuonzo Martin has a good track record as a head coach and until I see evidence to the contrary, I am going to trust that he knows what to do with our program. He doesn't need to "sell" anything to me.

He is doing what he should be doing right now, which is trying to recruit and sign players, not kiss up to self-important media hacks.

Judging from the CCM's twitter, he's out and about in the Knoxville community without the help of the media. (i.e. Trips to Chandler's and helping out with the "Fill the Truck" event yesterday).

Even if there is a problem, you go to Tom and try and hash it out. Tony went to the public pretending to be a determinant of CCM's success here in Knoxville, which is idiotic. Not to mention the fact that he isn't entitled to a damn thing.

Uhh... he did go to Tom. This has been brewing for 2 years. The Daniel West incident. Then, when Pearl needs something, Tom makes a call to basilio and offers Pearl.

I can't understand the hate for Basilio on this board, but whatever. He's the only true UT alumni and fan in the state with a radio show in the state. That crap you here in Nashville, Chattanooga and on The Animal doesn't have it's finger on the pulse of the average UT fan on 90% of their shows. You had that moron Plaster (Vandy grad) in Nashville screaming about UT not hiring Cutcliffe last year. You've got a Kentucky fan (Dearstone) as the sports director at The Animal in Knoxville, and a bunch of yahoos in Chattanooga. AA and Basilio are the most entertaining show in the state, and it ain even close, my friends.

I mean, is this really all about the Lovie Smith story? Really?

No. It's about Tony acting like he has any effect on CCM's success.

I live in south Georgia and I have listened to all the Radio shows on the internet. I have listened to shows in Nashville, Chattanooga, and the Sports animal. I must say that Basilio is the most fun. He is an entertainer not a News Anchor. He is goofy and He knows he is goofy. But I am entertained when I listen and that is the most important thing for me, that is why I listen to him and will continue to listen to him even though his has fisher price equipment.

I don't know how many listeners he has, but you don't remain on the air 20 years if no one listens.

Well, he's been let go from at least three radio stations (1240, 95.7, 850, etc.), in that time for poor ratings, so...

Now, he buys his time from the owners of 1180. So, he can stay on the air with them as long as his check clears. If one of us offered them more $$$ for his two hours, he wouldn't have a show any more. That's where he's at.

Tony makes most of his cash doing infomercials up north, then does the radio show here as a glorified hobby.

I'm sure your viewpoint is unbiased also since he doesn't work for state run radio, even though he's fed state run radio with employees for years. That garbage on the animal is as quality of a product as adidas is.

Sounds like smart buisiness, so....he's prolly doin' better than Hyams and that bunch? Though, I guess that's the same thing the sport's source guys do on sunday mornings.

He gave "state-run radio" Dave Hooker, who quit to go to another station. That's pretty much it.

I figured you would, as usual, take my opinion and argue the opposite.

Just because some of the programming on 99.1 has grown stale doesn't mean that Basillio is a quality product. Not even by comparison. I'll take stale facts over false rumors and incoherent yelling any day.

When I want news, I will read Brent Hubbs. When I want quality writing, I will read Mike Strange. But when I want general silliness and entertainment I tune into Tony B or AA. I can't lie.

I think Dave Nathan started with Tony as well. There's a couple of behind the scenes guys, producers, that have moved over as well. Tony was also the first to put Chris Low and Mike Griffith on air regularly which has benefited both of those guys careers which, for the record, I can't stand either of those guys because they are reporters, not journalists, therefore have no ability to form an intelligent opinion.

Tony has routinely gotten bus trips together for basketball away games, state run does nothing, even though they tried by advertising someone else's bus trip.

As far as rumors, the only thing you haters can hang your hats on is the Lovie Smith story. But working for the man you should know the facts surrounding that story that have stayed in-house. Seems to me Tony was THE ONLY radio source that got the "cargate" story accurate, even when state run was saying the exact opposite.

People that don't like Tony are ones who enjoy kool-aid. Tony's listeners can think for themselves, vehemently disagree with him at times, (which will get you banned by Jimmy) but at the end of the day are the guys that attend the games because they are true fans, not because its the in thing to do.

Also, as far as arguing with your posts, the only time you ever post on here is to defend a presumed attack on your employer. I'm starting to think your last name is adidas the way you take it personal when someone thinks they suck. That's great that UT has a great deal worked out with them and its financially beneficial, but the majority of their products still suck. I'd wear it if it was free (most of it anyway) but I pay for my gear so I'm going for the better value and it ain't adidas.

I sent an email to Basilio one time after reading his blog. He was wrong on about 5 pts and I gave my reasoning and specific knowledge about 2 dealing with a specific agent in the SE, whom I have known since the early 80's. His response to being busted on blatantly making up info was "haters gonna hate". I quit reading after he guaranteed the "cop kicker" had already confessed and the info would be out within 24 hrs. If not knowing anything is entertaining, then I guess he is.

Tony has figured out his niche market and caters to them. Unfortunately that market has an average IQ of about 57.

Tony is an idiot for busting on Tom about not getting an interview with Cuonzo. It does no good. Cuonzo has inherited a train wreck, let the man fix it.

worst athletic department in the universe, we got it.

funny how 'zo was so occupied with recruiting and caravans to do any interviews until the very moment his press dude was called out.

I agree to a degree... Adidas has a pretty good product. There is a reason they are an extremely successful brand in a NIKE driven market.

To say that The Sports Animal puts a product out as good as Adidas is not entirely accurate. Dearstone is a bigot at heart, and is extremely prejudice about sports he's never played. Unless you are talking to him about Golf, Bball, Football(sparingly), and baseball he is as closed minded and wrong as could be. I dislike Dearstone immensely. Jacoby is a good person and contributes more to that show than anyone. Heather is dumber than a box of rocks.

The 10-Noon show used to be funny and much more entertaining when Hooker was on it. Not that I agree with him, but he had a lot of good guests on, and he was constantly ripping on people. Made me chuckle...

I think the best show running right now is Josh Ward's and whoever is with him for the day. Hyams just is out of the loop and his material is quite obviously planned week by week with little room for anything "new" that happens during the week. Golf talk and Tennis talk is a waste of two perfectly good hours. I enjoy hitting the links, but golfer's are boring guests for the most part, and it is an hour of pimping Fairways and Greens... I will watch the golf channel and learn some things along the way. Jimmy just talks about the pin location like you can see it...

Basilio is the Howard Stern of local sports talk. I've been to a couple of his remotes(by coincidence) and have debated and talked with him about a few things. He just doesn't have very thought out opinions IMO and he is just doing slapstick and tired comical quips. He tries way too hard to be cool. If you try to be cool, you are far from it. Being cool is something you can't fabricate and he has been failing at that for 20+ years. The best thing about Basilio is he has a pretty good and pleasing to the ear style of radio voice. That's about the only compliment I can toss his way. Oh yeah, and I would like to thank him for allowing me to win more than one of his little basketballs several years ago at Breakers. I didn't keep any of them which is probably why he kept letting me win as I was the only knowledgable UT fan in the building or the only one sober enough to answer the questions. I gave out 7-10 of those balls to other people, and that had to have been 50% of the balls he brought with him.

AA will not be here long. He is better than almost everyone in town and has only been doing it for a few months. My friend at the sports animal said they already tried to get him over there and he turned them down. No idea why they only give him 1 hour and rucker 2 hours in the afternoon. Rucker puts me to sleep.
