Tony Bennett Retiring

Their championship run was exciting,but he got some lucky draws, as he didn't have to play a 1 or 2 seed.

He says he just doesn't want to deal with the whole NIL and portal thing anymore. Someone else can have it.

Many are expecting some sort of scandal to come out, but I think it may just be that he's done with it. Kids/agents coming in a couple of weeks before the season starts wanting XYZ and more $$$ would have me thinking about retiring, too. He's got plenty of money, especially if money isn't a huge motivator for him (for many people once they can buy a house and regular living expenses, they are good).

I hope he enjoys retirement and is able to do whatever he wants to do from this point forward. I also expect that there will be more like this in the near future.

I think college coaching, at least at the head coach level, is a young man’s profession. I believe you’re going to see a lot of guys walking away in their 50s. It’s just not worth the hassle anymore.

Especially with the money. A lot of football and basketball coaches stayed forever because up until the 1990's, they weren't making bank. Now you have guys with career earnings up over $100M

I will say, even with Bennett's track record of overall being a good dude, this was a ****** thing to do to make sure you assistant gets a chance if true.

Not as bad as what Bob Knight did at Texas Tech. He quit in the middle of the season to ensure his son got the job.

I mean honestly, with majority of Coordinators earning 1-2 million a year now there's no point in staying in coaching long. Hell, Position coaches can retire after 20 years and have 5-7 million in the bank.
