No Mark Barron? Hate the Bammers as much as the next guy but there's no way he's left off this list. IMO

He's one dimensional, he's great in run support but he sucks in coverage. Don't bring up stats watch the game film and watch him get caught on game in and game out. I think the best DB down there this coming year will be Millner.

Oh, I agree he's best when in the box and his downfield coverage skills need improvement. But, there's no denying that OCs, QBs and TEs have to game plan around him and acknowledge his presence. For that reason alone, I feel that he's worthy of making this list. A distinction Milliner does not have YET. I understand; however, last year was his first year playing DB full-time and he was a freshman in the SEC. Minus his shellacking of D Moore, I still have questions about his willingness to hit someone after seeing him in high school.

He can really be attacked in the passing game which is what I don't like about him. I think that whole secondary is overrated. Ha-ha could push for time easily at safety because Robert Lester can't tackle well. Dre Kirtpatrick sucks too. Menzie looked good when he was healthy though. That secondary will be exposed this season.

i know this is a vol board.....but, if you honestly would take janzen jackson over janoris jenkins or greg reid, medical attention is needed immediately.

Kidding me right. He makes just as many big plays as them. Reid does damage in the Punt return game. Neither of those two can play safety at a high level. Janzen can play CB and Safety at a high level. Jenkins had his best season back when he was a freshman which is not good. He also is more of a risk than Janzen off the field.(which is saying something) Reid is a good player but i'd take Janzen over him. I think at CB Janzen would make more big plays in coverage than the both of them. The hitting ability and the ball skills Janzen has would be unmatched in the college game at CB. And add in the 4.34 speed.

Barron has deficiencies no doubt but I think they were magnified due to the inexperience surrounding him. He likes to gamble and having 3 1st yr players playing with you is a luxury you can't afford. And, the Bama secondary is most certainly overrated. Maybe Nick's too busy slicking his hair back and making truck commericals and doesn't have the time to coach them up like he used to.

Nonetheless, I still don't feel there are 10 db's in the country that are better than MB.

Can't believe I'm saying this but after watching the (in my Barkley voice) 'turrible' Virginia Cavaliers Chase Minnifield is pretty good. While he doesn't belong in the discussion of the nation's top 10 dbs. He's in the top 20.

what plays are you talking about that janzen jackson has made? the #1 complaint about jackson is a safety's first job. he doesn't tackle worth a damn. he's so concerned about trying to lay the wood to someone that he fails to bring them to the ground.......a big no-no at any position, but most especially safety.

reid and jj both make plays at cb, which is the tougher position to play and the more valuable position to play.

jenkins best season was in 2010, not his freshman year.

but, even if you want to chalk up my opinion on jenkins to gator homerdom, greg reid is an outstanding cover corner.

So how would those two guys do at safety? Also Janzen has played well against the Gators is that why you downgrade him? He started off by blasting James as a freshman ,then he came up from safety all game to help hold Demps to 72 yards this past year. He was running alley like crazy. I saw Jenkins as a freshman and in this past season. I liked his freshman year because he looked hungry on the edge. This past year he was okay I do think he should have been following the top WRs around the field. He did play Julio well though. But the thing I'm saying is that Janzen can play both positions well and the other two can only play one.

Not the only SEC player shellacked. Milliner, Freshman first team All-America, go ahead put em on that list. And Barron is back.

He wasn't even the best freshman corner in the SEC. Check Tyrann Matheiu. Have you lost it dude? Oh wait you have you're a Tide fan. Hahahahahahahaha

I agree that Harris is currently far and away the best returning defensive back in the country. The rest of my top ten in no particular order are J. Holsley, Kenny Tate, M. Barron, C. Minnifield, T. Mathieu, Janoris Jenkins, Xavier Rhodes, Kenny Okoro, Stephon Gilmore and Ray Ray Armstrong.

Obviously, this list is biased towards the south and the east coast but I based my lists off players I have seen personally.

Being a Bama boy, I'd normally take offense to that. I was excited as hell when ESPN decided to feature SEC games but being in Maryland sucks because I still don't get to see them. All they have here is the weak a ACC. So, I get to watch lot of it.
