Top 10 Players In-State

That would be Curt Phillips, who is apparently looking good. We didn't want him, though.

I don't think Allen and Teague are a package deal. Allen is trying to pull Teague to LSU and apparently Teague is a silent to UF, though we'll try to pull him away.

As far as Long and Bullard, Long is a UGA legacy so I doubt anything happens with that. I guess it's possible we could push for Bullard, but it depends on if Kiffin wants to keep all of his OL commitments and who he is prioritizing. My guess is that he would rather have White over Bullard and I know he wants Moses over him.

you dont have to be catholic to go to Notre Dame!! Makes me wonder if Kiffin is interested in him, you would think he would use the Charlie Weis wont be around after next season angle with Bullard!

Drew Brees, Jeff Garcia, Kurt Warner, Tony Romo

4 of the top 5 QB's in the NFL in terms of passer rating are 6'2 or below.

and a great feel for the game, and are highly motivated and highly competitive-- and they succeed. A lot of big kids with big arms don't. You can't generalize about size. One of the best receivers in NFL, Carolina's Steve Smith, is, what, 5'10"--but tough and competitive and a big player.

Update:

Tennessee landed 4 of the top 10 players in the state. However only 2 of the prized top 5, which is disappointing.

I'm curious. What would it have taken for you not to be disappointed? Taking into consideration the timing of all the coaching announcements, of course.

I'm disappointed Tennessee only landed 2 of the top 5, I didn't say I was blaming Lane I realize he only had a couple of months to recruit.

Far as I can see, he only went after 3 of the top 5. He got 2 of the 3 he went after.

So you may be disappointed in not having more of the top 5 players. But I do not consider getting 2 of the 3 you were going after to be disappointing by Kiffin considering the situation.

Okla, as you well know, there's a cadre of post snipers out there ready to find fault with about anything posted. You bring up a good point that the past coaching staff were not even recruiting the instate talent..........I think that Kiffen (sic, for the nitpickers) will remedy that in the coming years.

Marlon Brown was a disappointment because I thought he might be the guy who helped bridge the state divide with Memphis. And, he's the type of player we could have used.

Lane had 3 weeks to work the state and turned Gordon from Bama, Teague from Florida, and landed Greg King out of Memphis says wonders about the work we did in that little of time. Not landing Brown kinda sucked, but he was going to a program where the HC was a professed Christian anyways. Grandma made the decision, I hope for Marlon's sake it was the right one.

Hey Eric. Totally agree that it's incredible that CLK was able to get Gordon, Teague, and King. In hindsight, I wish Teague had been the guy we'd all been focusing on before NSD, so he would have had all the attention we gave Marlon, but he seemed to have kept a lid on it too well for us to get our hopes up. It seems Gordon's decision to commit so quickly to Kiffin was a tremendous help to this year's recruiting.

2010 is a big in-state year. I hope we make a huge statement with that class and can get Tennessee talent re-dedicated to the dream of being a Vol.

I wasn't aware he only wanted 3 of the top 5. There were only 5, 4 star and 5 star players in the state, and I assumed he would want to sign all of them. Good point.

Not sure he fits Kiffin's "system." He's more of a dual threat QB IMO, even though rivals rated him as a pro-style passer. From what I saw, his best asset is his scrambling/running ability.

Kiffin's system does value a quaterback that can move, pro style quarterbacking doesn't limit itself to a five step drop in the pocket... you will see our QB's rolling out and throwing on the run quite a bit. You may recall all of the recent USC QB's moving around quite a bit, a were extremely accurate on the run.

Not sure what to think about Boyd... all the video I saw online made it look like he had a pretty big arm but he got the "running QB" label. For that type of quarterback to work out you have to catch lightning in a bottle, i.e. Vince Young, Tim Tebow, or Mike Vick... none of which are are doing or will be doing much in the NFL.

I think there was something else in the equation. Whether that be his surgery coming up, or whatever. I just don't think Boyd's accuracy was really all that great. However, Brunnetti this year looks to be a much better fit at the qb. In an article I read, he was talking about getting much better in the fall with his drop backs, throwing motions, and all that goes into being a better passer. I hope CLK scoops him up soon.
