I subscribe to a premium site for college football rumors and this came up last week... Not only that; but I've heard this around Lexington as well which gives it even more validity:
Former coaches out of work or up and coming young head and assistant coaches who will be candidates Kentucky will go for should Joker Phillips not survive 2012:
#1 - Bobby Petrino - Former UofL and Arkansas coach has a little baggage but so did John Calipari and that hasn't worked out all that bad.
#2 - Brent Pease - Former Boise State offensive coordinator was brought to The Swamp by Will Muschamp to bring back the Gators glory days of offense.
#3 - James Franklin - 1st year Vandy coach went 6 - 6 but could have easily went 8 - 4. His early recruiting is even more impressive.
Personally, I think either of the three would be a good hire for UK and I like them in the order they are in. Petrino proved he can build a program out of Louisville, would be the ultimate revenge factor against them for Pitino, and I think he would make UK more competitive in the SEC. Brent Pease has proven himself as an assistant and I think will be successful as a head coach. Lastly, James Franklin has raised a lot of eyebrows in the SEC, making Vandy instantly competitive and is a proven recruiter. I think that in the right situation Franklin would really excel as a coach.
