You're right. Given TCHFCATUTK's great success against Tuberville, what could I have been thinking?
So you are saying they are alot better than Florida even though we played Florida without ANY running game.Just an old bang it up the middle that never worked. What I'm saying is we have a rejuvenated offense with a fast back who has the ability and is given the opportunity to bounce the runs outside. You don't buy this at all?

Do I think Auburn is better than Florida? Yes. I also think Auburn's strengths would expose our weaknesses much more than UF did. Finally, the Auburn staff is vastly superior to the coaches of the Gators.

I see your points but IMO I just feel as though we are finally producing a balanced offense which without we have NO CHANCE in any upcoming games.NONE!I think your allowing your abhorrence for the coach possibly to bias your opinion for the team overall?

Not at all. I'm rather content with the job the coaching staff has done so far this season. I simply don't think this team is that talented.

We're creating a more balanced offense against Marshall and Memphis not against teams with real defenses. Even against Memphis we couldn't pound the ball in from the 1-yard line. We're still a powder puff team that will continue to have to rely heavily on the passing game because our offensive line can't get a strong push.

You have to be more specific in your identification of "lack of talent" on the team. From a talent standpoint, Ainge is up there with any QB in the SEC. Meach is one of the most talented WR's in the SEC and probably the entire country. Swain is not on that level but he is talented enough to be included close to the top WR's in the SEC. Coker is still unproven, but his talent is obvious. Our LB's are as talented a group as any team in the SEC. Wade and Hefney are top talents at CB and S. Morely has a long way to go but he is very talented and just needs to learn the game better from a mental standpoint.

Now, our OL is just not as talented as the top SEC schools. I'll give you that. They are not as athletic as a group. Not as quick. Our DL is not as strong or talented as the top SEC schools. Our depth is not as talented as the top SEC schools, really at any position. But UT is talented enough in the right positions to compete with and beat any team in the SEC. I think LSU might be the team that gives up the biggest problem of any SEC team. But, hey the good news is their coach is an idiot and so that gives us a hope that he will do something stupid.

Neither line is that good. Coker has run well against the dregs of the schedule. Let's see what he does when it matters. Wade, Hefney, and Morely didn't look like anything special as UF scored easily twice in the fourth quarter. There isn't a linebacker on this team that would have seen the field in 1998. Meachem is the only sure fire NFL physical talent on the field right now.

UT is woefully average at DL and disgraceful at OL to this point.

That is a very fair assessment. I would say that McBride and Swain are longshots as NFL prospects at this point. McBride is a tweener (he doesn't seem to fit a natural position and Swain though impressive at times is not as fleet afoot and has recurring injuries). Sears may get drafted, but unless someone lights a fire under his butt he won't last in the NFL.

I cannot get over how "average" the LBs have played after the fast start at Cal. I have a feeling that Mayo is being bothered by nagging injuries.

I guess I try to be more optimistic with my approach.I really hate to imagine what the future holds for the Vols, fans, etc., if we don't turn the corner, and show progress in somewhat of a hurried fashion, especially when our SEC counterparts are keying in on top notch prospects everyday it seems.

If someone lit a fire under Sears' butt, he'd scoot over and try to use it to roast Smores.

I think Wilhoit will be kicking in the NFL one day.:dunno:

I am often puzzled about the way kickers are chosen and drafted,

You and me both. I never could figure out why a guy like Tom Hutton had a pretty decent NFL career, but Jimmy Colquitt didn't.

I quit making projections on kickers when Jeff Hall failed to stick in the league.

Another good example. Kicking is so mental. It is just hard to say how people react to that kind of pressure.

Well, also remember that kickers are one per team and that they tend to play for a long time. There just aren't many openings unless you're really really good.

As far as LBs go, there aren't many LBs in the SEC that could have started on that team. All three were starting NFL material -- and Al Wilson is a Pro Bowler.

I think Wade will push for All SEC honors.

Meachem, McBride, Sears, Swain, Wade, and M Mitchell are the upper classmen that will get a shot. The younger guys are young to tell at this point.

If we had kept R Smith (OL), Harrell, and McDaniel, we would have upgraded both lines and had one of the best DLs in the country. But we don't, which hurts some.

I have to say I agrree with your assesment of our teams tallent. Ainge is so much better this year, but seeing him do the gator chomp halfway through the 3rd makes me wonder about his maturity considering he is a JR. I feel this team has good chemistry and is a much closer group as compared to last years team which is an intangible aspect that cannot be ignored.

oh, i liked the Gator Chomp....would have been even better had we won...buut....oh well.

It's no different than opposing players singing rocky top or when dough johnso came backon the feild pointing at the scoreboard after a big hit...

except that they won the game...darn it. still like it though.

I really think the Gators may very well go undefeated and to think we came within a single play (stop) of defeating them, speaks volumes.Kind of reminds me of the basketball team the Gators had.We played them tough and defeated them. They may very well have a chance to be a two sport National Champion this year IMO!I only wish we could catch them again.
That UF will go undefeated is saying a WHOOOOOLE bunch imo. As tough as our stretch coming up is, it doesn't include Auburn along with LSU and an always dangerous Mark Richt club. For what it's worth, I for one will be VERY surprised if they ran the table. Besides, it's impossible for them to go undefeated because that would mean WE have no shot at the SECCG!...lol

If you're going to do the chomp, you better back it up. Otherwise, you just look silly.
