A consistent season will do it. If he is has ready and focused as he looked last year, he is going to have a very fun 2023.

I may be one of the biggest Joe Milton supporters in this fan base. The way he handled getting benched in ‘21 and didn’t quit, stuck around and learned from his best friend and the best QB coach in the country, the way he goes about his business and the way he talks about and gives credit to his teammates. He seems like a real class act and we should all be proud that he’s the face of this team

QB Rankings by 247

They ranked 5 QBs in the SEC infront of Joe. Noone is talking about how well he performed and looked last year. I love the hate. LOVE IT. More fuel to the fire! Volnation doesnt forget.
I have to fight being sucked into this con. Pre-season lists like this get the writer paid... for more or less nothing but stroking some fans and making others mad.

Apparently experience and perceived talent is enough for this guy. They rate Ewers #4 because of his "passing talent" yet he pretty much sucked last year passing against good teams. This list and the other one that came out that didn't have Milton in the top 25 are purely subjective. It is a case of bias expressed on paper. "I like this guy/program"... "I dislike this guy/program".

You can be sure that some of it relates to a dislike of Heupel and his system.

If we want the recognition from the press then we have to do it on the field. They'll have to give him props. No way around that.
Yes and no. Preseason lists like this are pretty ridiculous. The important ones occur after the season and are based on real results.

No to the extent that some of the guys rated higher haven't proven they're worthy. I mentioned Ewers above. Leary had a good year at NCSU built largely on great games against bad teams. Apparently their reason for ranking Rattler so high is his game against UT... when UT had one healthy scholarship CB on the field. His ceiling was average at best against all others.

This would be a good thread to revisit in 4 months.

I saw Ewers at #4 and laughed. I saw him against TCU last year and wondered why people thought he was good

You can't convince me Mississippi State, Kansas, Kentucky and Duke have a better QB than us. No shot.
They may not have the physical talent that Milton does, but they’ve all proved it over the course of a season. Despite what we watched in mop up duty and in starts against Vandy and Clemson, Joe’s history doesn’t help him . He’s lost his starting job twice.

Joe is listed as a potential Heisman candidate, things will work themselves out. I like some disrespect in these polls, hopefully adds a little more fuel.

Don't care about preseason watch lists, rankings, awards etc. Prove you deserve it. Best of luck to Joe. Hope he has a monster season.

Exactly. If we win a lot of games and Joe plays well it won’t matter. It didn’t matter last year when weren’t even ranked in the preseason and wound up being #1 for a time and having a Heisman candidate. I like us being down a notch or two.
