I see where you are coming from on Ron, but to me, some of his performances in the early days of the c5r were master class.... Yes I mean Hans senior. Jack Stewart or Brabham?

Sir Jack always meant Brabham. Stewart is always Jackie or "The Wee Scott".

Rb, what do you think of my list?

I agree with most of it, particulary like including Tommi Makinen as Rally drivers are among the most skilled IMO. Also like having Giles Villeneuve, very talented, would have accomplished so much more. I got to know him and his brother Jacques when they raced snowmobiles for Rupp when I worked there in the early '70s. He had tremendous car control. I remember working the Carousel at Mid-Ohio when he was driving F Atlantic. He would kick the rear end out and drift the entire corner, where normally a car would understeer. Only he was doing it, and he won by a wide margin.

The fact that none of your lists have speed racer or danicka patrick in them leads me to believe that you guys are not very credible on the subject.

The fact that you did not mention Cole Trickle or Hut Stricklin doesn't keep your credibility above zero.

I would have to dig deep and pull out some old footage I've collected for drivers pre 1980s.

Just a few off the top of my head and some that may not be on everyone's list.

Colin McRae
Tim Richmond
Walker Evans
Rick Mears
Richie Evans
Scott Bloomquist
Billy Moyer
Rich Vogler
Nigel Mansell
Mickey Thompson
Alain Menu
Bill McGovern
Nicolai Larini
Tommi Makinen
Sebastien Loeb

Basically ANY driver that competed in the mid 60s in Formula 1 cars with that crazy speed, edge of your seat driving where one mistake could lead to instant death. Those guys had the cajones.

Yeah, any era of racing where safety was: "Just don't crash and you will probably be safe." The people involved were nuts.

Interesting and diverse list, I would kick out Ron Fellows, there are many above him. David Pearson was a better driver than Petty. No Stirling Moss??? You do mean Hans Stucke the senior? What about Sir Jack?
Thank You! All You have to do is compare Wins and Starts!

Petty is overrated. Raced in a time when not many teams had really good cars that could compete every weekend.

I've heard this argument many times and it's still one of the dumbest ones out there. You can only measure Richard up to his peers that he raced against, he was the best during his prime.

I don't completely agree with it either, but over half of Petty's 200 wins came on short tracks, many of them dirt.

Tim Richmond was one of the best wheel men I have seen race. Interestingly it is my opinion that the deaths of Richmond, Allison and Kulwicki changed the pecking order of NASCAR. I am not sure Sr would of had 7 titles nor Gordon 4 had those guys not passed.

My opinion of and history with Tim Richmond have been posted a couple times. I believe he could have won at least one Champ., and I feel quite sure Kulwicki would have won more than the one he got. I am also confident that Davy Allison would have won more than one. That being true would have to mean those wins coming from someone's total.

Ken Block

Kenny from the Block?

Hold on to your flat brim caps, bros!

Funny bit, though, I have a bunch of car friends that happen to be Subaru idiots (nothing against Subarus, just talking about your run of the mill, flat brim cap wearing dudes that have a WRX STI and refer to all modifications to their car in "stages").

The frenzy on facebook was insane when it was announced Block had to switch from the Impreza to a Ford Focus so he could compete in WRC. They went ballistic, even when I would post something sensible like "... Subaru doesn't have a WRC car." All I read for days was "F***IN SELL OUT" "FORD SUCKS" etc. etc.

Politics have been a prevalent disrupting force in most European racing.

I would add Dale... Definitley. Not sure about Stweart, Gordon maybe. It's so hard to choose... :cray:

If we're talking about Tony Stewart he needs to be on the list. Probably one of the best American drivers ever.

Surprised no one has mentioned Kimi Raikkonen. Also Hendrick Motorsports has to be one of the most dominate teams regardless of what series.

I am his biggest fan on this board, but he doesn't deserve to be near a GOAT list.
