Rb, what do you think of my list?
I would have to dig deep and pull out some old footage I've collected for drivers pre 1980s.
Just a few off the top of my head and some that may not be on everyone's list.
Colin McRae
Tim Richmond
Walker Evans
Rick Mears
Richie Evans
Scott Bloomquist
Billy Moyer
Rich Vogler
Nigel Mansell
Mickey Thompson
Alain Menu
Bill McGovern
Nicolai Larini
Tommi Makinen
Sebastien Loeb
Basically ANY driver that competed in the mid 60s in Formula 1 cars with that crazy speed, edge of your seat driving where one mistake could lead to instant death. Those guys had the cajones.
I've heard this argument many times and it's still one of the dumbest ones out there. You can only measure Richard up to his peers that he raced against, he was the best during his prime.
Tim Richmond was one of the best wheel men I have seen race. Interestingly it is my opinion that the deaths of Richmond, Allison and Kulwicki changed the pecking order of NASCAR. I am not sure Sr would of had 7 titles nor Gordon 4 had those guys not passed.
Ken Block
Kenny from the Block?
Hold on to your flat brim caps, bros!
Funny bit, though, I have a bunch of car friends that happen to be Subaru idiots (nothing against Subarus, just talking about your run of the mill, flat brim cap wearing dudes that have a WRX STI and refer to all modifications to their car in "stages").
The frenzy on facebook was insane when it was announced Block had to switch from the Impreza to a Ford Focus so he could compete in WRC. They went ballistic, even when I would post something sensible like "... Subaru doesn't have a WRC car." All I read for days was "F***IN SELL OUT" "FORD SUCKS" etc. etc.
