The amount of talent on the field that day was unreal. You could field the basis of a good NFL team from the guys who played in that one.

The Notre backfield alone was outrageous. At any given time they had some combination of Jerome Bettis and Ricky Waters and they killed us with a sweep to Rocket Ismael out of a T formation.

Rick Mirer was also an awfully good college QB. His NFL career is one of the great sports mysteries of all time to me. He had a very good rookie season, a nice second year, then proceeded to fall completely apart.

'bama in '93. We were up by 8 I believe late in the game and (David Palmer?) scored a TD and 2 point conversion to tie.

Also, Auburn '90. We were up by 2 TDs and they came back and tied us...

Florida '95. The 37 unanswered points after we were up 30-14 at one point in first half. :puke:

Georgia '01.
we must be drinking the same kool aid...those are mine to a tee. but i'd add the ND game at Neyland when AK was qb...

Here are a few:

79. The What Are Rutgers game. How did we manage to lose that game, then come back the next week to demolish Notre Dame.

80. We would've, should've beaten both Georgia and USC.

86. Take your pick. Mississippi St, Army, Ga Tech. This was, for the most part, the same team which crushed Miami in the Sugar Bowl, and with the schedule we had, 86 easily should've been a ten win season :disappointed:

87. Boston College. I was listening on the radio and the best I remember Randy Sanders put on a clinic of how not to play QB.

88. I don't even want to talk about it.

90. Colorado. Why in the world are we running a draw on that final play

90. Auburn. We had it and let Auburn come back and win.

90. Bama. Blocked fg that led to their winning fg, but we never should've been in that position in the first place. We had one of our best offenses ever. Why were we so damned scared to throw against Alabama.

90. Notre Dame. Probably one of AndyKelly's best games ever, except for one pass. We easily should've been 13-0 in 1990 and National Champions.

91. Bama. Same as in 90, we were entirely too conservative on offense.

92. Arkansas. No excuse

92. South Carolina. Terrible 2 pt play, but it never should have come to that in the first place.

93. Alabama. We dominated the game and let David Palmer come back and tie it with a td and 2 pt conversion.

94. Mississippi St. We had that game and gave it away in the 2nd half with what, three or four fumbles in our own territory.

95. Florida. We were up 30-14 and just fell apart.

96. Memphis. Terrible call on the kickoff return, but our offense was awful.

00. Florida. Gafney's touchdown drop. That call was ridiculous.

01. Georgia. How did they manage to come back with just about 30 seconds or so.

05. Alabama. That game was almost a carbon copy of the game in 90.

05. Vandy. There is no excuse for any Tennessee team to EVER lose to Vandy.
Hey that' every game we've lost in the last 25 years!

Two from last year:

Holding Bama to 6, at HOME, should be PLENTY.

Vandy. Come on. This one will smart for a long time.

If the coaching staff, meaning CPF doesnt read this site maybe he should. How is it a man in his position brings a team on the field who shows as much emotion as a tupperware party?....hey thats fans as well as players...and coaching staff.......you'd think the whole bunch was at church and the plate was goin around....quiet= cheap

i was at that game....we had to outnumber LSU fans 2-1...but you'd of never known it....their fans were awesome.

I actually had TN fans sshhhh me!!! couldn't believe it. most of the people we sat around, just SAT there. it was pathetic. they all sat there, on their hands, but when it started going bad, they were all bitching and complaining...really pissed me off.

I didn't know what i was more mad about...our fans total lack of enthusiasm or Matt Mauk killing us with the qb draw!!!!!

I can honestly look back and make a list, as well. But, in my lifetime, having seen the games I have seen, there is a difference in sentiment and just plain should have. That game against Georgia in 01, and that stupid squib kick call, has to have been the worst. It didn't break our season, but damn sure broke my heart. Of all the shouldas, OTs won or lost, that just should not have ever happened. Kick it deep and hold the frickin ball. I hope I live to be 100, and never see anything like that, ever. This thread makes me sad, too. But that was just ridiculous, and makes me angry. :banghead:

No order--- '96 vs. Memphis, 05 vs. Vandy, 01 vs. Georgia, 00 vs. Florida, and 95 vs. Florida. I thought that i would be long dead before we ever lost to Vandy, and unfortunately I was at the Memphis game, I felt like shooting myself after that game. Come on we had Manning, Little, Graham, Kent, FAir, and the list goes on....... That team had talent and LOST to MEMPHIS. Just think if we hadn't lost that game. I know that we still went on to play and beat a very good Ohio St. team.

Bama 90'-Many Alabama games come to mind, but the one in 1990 sticks out because of a blocked field goal that could have given UT the victory. Instead, it set up Alabama for their last second win.

that whole game was a steaming pile of pony loaf, but seeing carl pickens throw a cup of gatorade at greg burke on the sideline was pretty funny.

We played Northwestern that year in the Citrus Bowl. We played Ohio State the year before.

I think that was the Auburn game. After he shanked an easy game winner.

It also wasn't Pickens, it was one of the offensive linemen.

what does everyone think of my theory that CPF is a coach who will hide half his playbook from a next opponent at the risk of losing a game to a lesser opponent? Or do the Vols just make it seem that way by playing at the level required to beat who's on that saturday?

As opposed to Hat,who I rarely agree with, I think you're right again Dan.
