tOSU stadium ?

Posted this in another thread, but figured relevant here too. My thoughts:

1 - Columbus is a cool college city. Some fun neighborhoods, good eats, etc.

2 - The Shoe is an impressive facility, especially from the outside. Even though capacity might be more, the Shoe feels a lot smaller than Neyland and it is not even remotely as loud. Expected ears to be ringing after the game, but it was never really loud. You could easily carry on a conversation with folks around you.

3 - OSU fans should be embarrassed at the turnout. GameDay was 60%+ orange and that stadium had a ton or orange in it.

4 - They have a lot of video boards on the sideline and over the exits where they display erratic flashing lights when we were on offense. Surprised that’s allowed.

5 - The fans around us (immediately behind Tenn bench) were subdued, but there were a lot of Tenn fans so they wouldn’t have had the courage to be overly aggressive. However, after the game I was surprised at the level of ugliness directed at a middle aged man with two kids in tow. A little alcohol-fueled ugliness is to be expected but it was a lot. I guess a sign of their SEC little man syndrome. The real surprise was that of the thousand of OSU fans we passed there were a LOT of jerks but not a single person said a nice thing. Not one. No one said “thanks for coming” or “better luck next year” or “you traveled well” or anything. I came into this game without any opinion on the OSU fan base and left with a significant negative view. Now I understand why Michigan hates them so much. Every fan base has jerks, but at Neyland there is lots of southern hospitality/kindness extended to opponents and there was none of that at OSU.

Amen. Holy crap felt like leg day after reaching the summit. 😂

I’ll echo what most said. One thing I will say was better, is I had more leg room due to just how verticals that third level was. Idk if it was the same in the lower level but at neyland I feel like my legs are in someone’s back all the time or my shins are being attacked by their chair.

Will also say who put on their half time show with the fan race. Just low rent and classless. Not going to say much bc Vol fans gave as good as they got for the most part.
Lol the fan race was bs. That was a student they dressed up to basically troll us

Yeah it was bs. But idk that their players have ever been booed as much as they were going in to their own stadium. We damn near had them surrounded screaming Transfer Portal and singing Rocky Top on the side where their players entered. Our fans gave them ample amounts of crap. Their fans also gave us some crap. That said I didn’t have anything thrown at me or anyone else close to us, didn’t have anyone try to instigate any issues, they had a few people tell us we should head out to beat traffic early in the game.

Again this wasn’t close to the BS I’ve had with other SEC fans like Bama, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Kentucky, etc.

I will second this.....guys imagine what your entire experience has been since you started dating girls and then flip it upside down...
I saw women dropping off their Husband's at the bathroom line and say I am going tonuse the bathroom and then I will wait for you over here....

Stadium was very cramped and the second and third level looks like it hasn't been updated or worse if it has..I would ask for a new project manager.

Fans are pleasant and the exit/entrance to the stadium was very easy travel....food and beverage lines were absurd ...

One more thing and maybe someone can answer this...they have alot of red lights flashing during the game throughout the stadium.. is this something that is normal while the gane action is taking place?
Took my daughter maybe 10 mins to go to the bathroom, get popcorn and back to the seat.

I missed most of the 2nd qtr.

Their fans are classless, I’m all for fun back and forth between rival fans. Their behavior was disgraceful.

I thought there was more room behind the stands, i.e. bathrooms and food.

Bathrooms line was super long. Found a trough on the first level. Didn't mind the stairs because it warmed me up a little.

Didn't find or see any aggressive ohio fans. The two next to me both commented on how many Tennessee fans attended.

Funny SEC chants..haha I was instigating a little bit but nobody took the bait.

Really seem like a spoiled team and fan base. Would have been great to at least show up and play. The first series face mask may have been huge. 3 and out on the first series would have taken the crowd out of it and allowd UT crowd in the game.

The "entertainment" reminded me of minor league baseball games. Cheap and not really into the university, no honoring past players, teams or championships.

I also concur, we need to fire the decibel level guy in Neyland or hire their guy. No where near 120. I was in the stands for 10 louder vol games.

The stadium not being finished looks cheap, not cute. Reminds me of vandy or Williams Brice.

I gave all my money, voice and froze my azz off..

Go Vols.

Middle of the road SEC venue
Low budget fireworks
Bathrooms built for 30 min lines…endorsement for urinal troughs.
Medium size screens (jumbo) for 102K stadium is cheap
Crowd noise struggled to reach 120 decibels for a half second
Halftime show was a high school production..couldn’t hear and we were in the lower bowl.
Fans are obnoxious but we didn’t give them reason to not be
Pregame outside venues were O’Charleys on The Strip vibe

Better food and beverage selections at a better price than Neyland

Atmosphere wasn’t what I expected for a school like OSU. Pretty mediocre
Exactly this!

I wanted to go to the shoe because of its storied history and supposed draw.

The stadium seats a similar number to neyland but is no where near the same level of production for entertainment or volume. I can’t believe they claimed it was 120db. The only reason it was remotely loud was because the speakers were blaring. There were no real fan noises coming out of it and the speaker sounded like they were from the early 2000s.

The red lights were atrocious and I felt like they could’ve done so much more with it.

They played the same three songs “turn down for what” and I don’t remember the others.

I guess what they lacked in entertainment and atmosphere, they devoted to beatin our ass up and down the field. 🤦‍♂️

Told a South Carolina Gamecock buddy they are a decade behind the SEC for gameday atmosphere.

Entire area around stadium just kind of lacked any kind of personality or feel. Stadium itself had a historic aura (to me at least), but I've seen better bathroom situations at county fairs. Literally just hundreds of port-o-lets haphazardly scattered about the entire facility and stadium lots outside.
Inside, things don't get much better. Was in 6A and had a great view. EXTREMELY cramped seating. Noise level was disappointing. Could make out conversations several people away and at no time got deafening. I was chasing that "feeling" and never really got it from the vibes. This was pregame, so not game-driven feeling.
Most people I encountered were fine enough, not overly friendly nor rude. I did overhear some nasty stuff, but nothing out of cuff. Towards the end, several tried to instigate a response from me, but my look and posture disarmed them quick enough.
Overall a solid experience. Won't let the outcome sour the journey.

We truly do have the best entrance in college football. I will whole heartedly take that statement to my grave. Stadium was fine. SEC vibes. Fans were whatever. Fan engagement was weak. UGA at Sanford is also just as weak. Tailgating around the stadium is weak. My highlight of the day was getting a Schnitzel at Schmidt’s in the German village 😂

I sat up in 17D under the overhang. Big donor section with older OSU fans. I stole the OSU presale code and got those seats. I can see why they would be desirable. Seats were under cover so would be shaded for hot noon kickoffs. They were nice and warm for this game because we were shielded from the cold wind. Almost every seat had the OSU seat cushions, including our seats. Very comfortable and had plenty of leg room compared to Neyland. I’m 6’8 and don’t fit well in Neyland in DD, especially if someone in front of me has the crappy UT chairbacks. The OSU stairs were rough. Straight up - back and forth like a hotel. My legs were burning! The bathroom line was huge when we walked in 30 minutes before kickoff, so I never tried or got out of my seat. Their fireworks sucked! UT and PyroJesus are a 10 out of 10! The PA system has very easy to hear, much better than Neyland. The crowd noise didn’t begin to touch Neyland, and I think the large number of Vol fans helped keep it quiet. The stadium was big and nice … I liked the view walking in and there were tons of gates. My ticket listed which gate to enter and then I walked right up the stairs to my seats. No flyover last night, which I always look forward to at Neyland. I paid $30 to park in the farthest public lot. Carmack #5. Free bus ride was easy to get to from our parking lot and the stadium. Took a while to exit the lot but much better than Neyland garages. Glad we went even though the Vols laid an egg.

Outside looks ran down. Small concourse, literally was like gridlock Atlanta traffic. They were lying about how loud it was because they were showing 120db but you could have a conversation and understand everything perfectly. Was probably more like 95db
I literally said there's to many vol fans for that to be accurate.

Think of the bad stuff about Neyland: dated in areas, bathrooms, concourses, concessions. Multiply that by 3.

It didnt have any of the redeeming qualities..

It was Legion Field without the condemnation

The High Street area was cool.

Interested in the opinion of the fans who made the trip, God bless you. How did their stadium compare with Neyland? Were the seats crammed together, more suited for 8 year old girls, like Neyland? Concessions and bathroom facilities, ingress and parking, etc. wish I’d been there to suffer along with fans who went. Thanks to you guys.
The stadium was nice enough. No issues with seating being tiny but they weren't oversized either.

I didn't use the restroom, so won't comment.

The only thing i disliked was using stairs in some spots instead of exclusively using ramps.

The fans, pre game they were pretty cool to my son and I, but once in the stadium there were a couple of dicks. But i refuse to judge a fanbase off of those two. God knows, i have seen the same from some in Orange.

I am glad i went but not sure i would go again should the Vols play there in the future.

I was in 20b. The tickets as far as yardline goes were perfect. The ticket sites convieniently leave out the huge pillare on the 50 yardline. Its cool to go to a historic stadium. As far as how it compares to Neyland. Not even close not remotely close. I'd rather visit commonwealth stadium in kentucky. it is nicer.

Good view from the corner where we were. Lines were extremely bad for the bathrooms, maybe the worst i've seen about that. Was not loud, Neyland is louder vs G5 teams. The 120 dbs showing on the jumbotron was an absolute lie lol. Everybody was super nice to us though amd very complimentary of our turnout
