Not self-imposing a bowl ban this year was Smith's biggest mistake. Don't think many OSU fans would have shed tears over not going to the Gator Bowl this year.

How does the sholorship reduction work? Is it 9 over three years, have a full 85 in 2012 and 2013 then drop to 74 players for 2014, or will they be down 9 for the next three years?

I may be wrong about this, but I believe that anytime a team is banned from post season play then the classes for the total time of the ban can transfer. USC got a two year ban so both Jrs and Srs could transfer.

It didn't pop up in alabama's in 2002 (or whenever) and in the USC release had the NCAA making it as a separate point of punishment (not commentators saying "because of this punishment, Jrs and Srs are now eligible to transfer w/o penalty). I could be wrong as well, however it seems to be an extra punishment levied on top of others to emphasize just how much the line was crossed/ just how harshly they're punishing a school.

Again, I could also be wrong though

i'm sure they would have tacked on another year if he did to that.

urban came in and in a few weeks put the 2012 class top 5. they were told no more sanctions would be handed out.

interesting to see what happens with them

Miami and UNC are going to get killed by the NCAA. Their situations were much worse than what happened at OSU.

Ohio St fans are freaking out on another board I frequent. One guy just wrote after being told to calm down.., "nothing to control this is me 100% of the time. tress is jesus columbus is heaven and urban is god"

They can't go to the Big 10 championship game either according to their boards. They would have been the favorite next year because they return all 11 starters on D and 7 on offense. They could go undefeated and it won't matter.

Ohio State got off easy because the key witness refused to cooperate with the NCAA. Goes to show that you should not work with the NCAA.

So are the penalties going to be in addition to the self imposed or concurrent with? In other words OSU had already forfeited 5 scholarships each year for the next 3, so will they now have to forfeit 8?

Im now thinking Ohio St fans are the most delusional in all of college sports. If not #1 definitely top 3.

They are pretty funny on their scout board. There are a lot of people over there advocating for the team to pull out of the Gator Bowl and make that their 1 year ban. They actually think this would work.

It just adds insult to injury. They have a chance to be very good next year, but can't go to a bowl, but this year they sucked it up and have to play in the Gator Bowl.

I told my dad a few hours before this announce. 2 year bowl ban, five year show cause for JT, and scholarship reductions.

I was pretty damn close, so I'm happy at least. Especially happy the NCAA didn't puss out on us.

Now I wonder how they are going to top this with Miami, UNC, and Oregon
