Toughest places to play in college football; Where Neyland Stadium lands

I would say the scariest place to be would be Georgia’s stadium especially after the game. I mean with two deaths and multiple driving arrests from players and staff who is really safe on the road game day in Athens. Program totally out of control….

I know years ago Tiger stadium could get crazy, but is it still worthy of a #1 ranking today? Noon game or not, we silenced them cajuns🤘

It's hard to argue against Tiger Stadium at night. But the 2022 season featured some incredible atmospheres at Neyland Stadium. I'm not sure it can get any better than the atmosphere for the Alabama game -- that might go down as the best crowd in Neyland Stadium history (and there's been a load of great ones). And the atmospheres for the Florida and Kentucky games were also nothing short of incredible. Even a noon kickoff for a soggy game against Missouri in November featured a lively sold out crowd.

anytime a team loses on their home field, the fans "get silenced". That includes us. an observation.

This is how I would rank them based on places I've been:

1. LSU
2. Auburn
3. Florida
4. Bama (Tuscaloosa. Never thought Birmingham that loud and was there for both Bama and Auburn)
5. UGA
6. Arkansas (Fayetteville not Little Rock)
7. USC
8. A&M (only there once while been to the others many times)

to me, the other stadiums in SEC are so open hard to get loud. I left Neyland off as too much bias for me to include. Also didn't include the OOC schools I've been to. Notre Dame only one I've seen multiple times.

Toughest Stadium for opposing teams? Honestly there are a few that come to mind for being the toughest historically. But I’ll keep my answer in the SEC and say that historically it’s between Tiger and Neyland Stadium. Tiger bc let’s be honest, who in their right mind is very comfortable with 100,000+ Cajuns yelling at and pissed off at them? Neyland bc it’s also 100,000+ and if I’m not mistaken TN does have the record for wins in their home Stadium. So which one?

Well, you guys embarrassed a very good LSU team in Tiger Stadium last year so historically I’ll give Neyland the win here. It also doesn’t hurt that opposing teams might fear titleists raining down on them if they piss off the 100,000+ fans there. That last bit was mostly a joke but honestly if I were a college kid playing there in a close game, I’d probably keep on my helmet at any sign of a questionable call.

As far as the toughest right now? You know my answer. Neyland can prove me wrong on Nov. 18 and I’ll sadly tip my hat. Until then it’s Sanford.

I've been to every SEC stadium except Mizzou (neither Tex or OU either). Neyland was the king for a long time, then declined for obvious reasons.
In 2023, I put Neyland back up to the top. I think LSU and Neyland and The Swamp have been the hardest for decades. I'll never return to the Swamp. By far the worst atmosphere to be a supporter of the visiting team. When someone threw a cup of urine on my wife some, UF fans held me back after I walked up 6 rows of seats. They were older and calm UF fans. They calmed me down. That was as blind with rage as I had ever been. I was going up to the group that was laughing about it. One UF fan got me back to myself. His wife went up there and was standing by the crew when the cops got up there. She told them who did it.

I think Neyland is a very challenging home field advantage. The atmosphere is intense and it really works on defensive players, who are struggling with our receivers' changing routes and our running game exploiting passing lanes opened for the run. Neyland is tough, and the defenders are playing chess against the offense. Some players will adjust and blank it out, but others' willpower weaken as the game continues.

In the Air Force, I saw the toughest men I have ever known break down during those exercises with deafening noise practicing life and death scenarios. (my own breaking point was during exposure to tear gas and pepper spray; my lungs went into shock. It really scared me. Thought I was dead.)

Yeah, I understand the tear gas and pepper spray comments. I’ve personally been educated in these areas. The only thing you can hope to do is find your way out of it. I don’t care how tough you are, true tear gas will bring you to your knees very quickly. Find the upwind direction immediately

We were in a closed room with tear gas canisters and pepper spray directly to the face at point blank range. Part of training.
You learn that tear gas and pepper spray are not something you use lightly. It can be a deadly weapon if your target has asthma or heart issues.
