Yes, the UT Track Coach was Chuck Rohe, & several Vol receivers came from his stable of athletes. Coach Rohe died in 2023 at age 92.Does anyone remember when Majors and Fulmer needed speed receivers how they would hit the track team and teach them to run routes and catch? It's a random thought, but we had some good receivers come from there.
No, it didn't happen that way at all. We signed receivers who also ran track when players competed in both sports. In regards to your first question, the answer is NO. That actually never happenedDoes anyone remember when Majors and Fulmer needed speed receivers how they would hit the track team and teach them to run routes and catch? That's the way I remember it. Grady was the exception, and he wasn't much of a receiver. If we're going to have this discussion, somebody needs to say RichmondFlowers. No, it didn't happen that way at all. We signed receivers who also ran track when players competed in both sports. Who all signed here as football players, but also ran track. None of them came from the track team
All of our great WRs who ran track were great hs football players too. Not one single AA receiver we've had came off the track team and developed into a football player as the OP suggested.News flash, Chuck Rohe was Doug Dickey’s recruiting coordinator as well as the track coach. Guessing the Bear Bryant rule was in effect and most started on FB schollies, but the implicit DUAL opportunity enticed many to UT.
There was a plan.
Edited to add he did both, but Richmond Flowers had an Olympic goal for sure. Same for Sam Grady and Gault years later.
