I would love to have a former Badger. A sweet lefty when I was watching him during high school and ran the point well for a Sweet 16 team.

Webster would be HUGE for UT. He is a Chicago guy and has strong ties to the city. That may not seem like much to people in the south but Chicago produces some of the top talent in the nation year in and year out. The names can go on and on of Chicago talent at the top of college hoops every year. When guys like Jacob Pullin of K state is a lower tier prospect from Chicago, you know the talent is huge. He could help provide a solid recruiting base for UT hoops. If martin is smart he would snatch him up before UIC or some other mid major signs him up as the head coach.

Absoutley agree...to sign a player here and there in Chicago every year, huge

We have had spotty PG since CJ. This guy sounds like the remedy to that. He was an excellent PG at Wisconsin.

In that case, no it is not.

Seems like we will need someone with ties to the region on this staff, especially with our recent success in Atlanta.

Harris has recruited the Southeast Region the last 3 years for Martin. Williams recruited Louisiana and Arkansas.

Harris:
"That (Atlanta) has got to be home base. You have to hone in and get the kids in your own state, but definitely Atlanta and Georgia as a whole are areas we'll hit pretty hard.''

bristol herald courier via AP link. cuonzo martin has hired jon harris andkent williams for his staff after the pair spent the last seasons as his assistants at mo st.

which is true but they weren't hired instead of Webster

The source, who requested anonymity because the hire is not yet official, said the 39-year-old Webster will be the third and final assistant coach hired by Martin.

The hire of Tracy Webster was probably the main task of Martin at the Final Four. But no he should have been walking around the whole time holding hands and washing the feet of Ware and other recruits. Even though it would have been violations. This is a big hire.

Don't know much about him, but his resume looks solid.

Griffith also has an article about him up on GVX, mentions his strong ties to midwest recruiting hotbeds, but the one thing that stands out at this point that the staff being put together is lacking a connection to southern recruiting. Probably a sign that Fancher will indeed stay on as Dir. of Bball Operations.

Another guy whose "recruiting connections" has rarely actually led to sought-after recruits.

The negativity surrounding a coach who is just getting started is really perplexing to me. Especially coming off a coach who left in disgrace.

And how many sought-after Chicago recruits did he land as a recruiter for programs like Illinois, Purdue & Depaul, as well as Kentucky? Try 1 kid from the suburbs in 7 years recruiting. He's known as a good on-court coach, but not known as a good off-court recruiter.

Huge hire -- stealing an assistant from the basketball powerhouse of Nebraska, no less!

He is a veteran assistant coach that is highly regarded among his peers. That is a great piece to add to our staff at this point.

Wow! Your bitterness over the Fulmer firing is still lingering and causing a cloud of pessimism to follow every post you make on the new hires.

You do realize when we hired Fulmer we were taking just as big of a chance as we are now with Cuonzo.

What the hell are you talking about??:loco: He did get Liggins at UK. He also helped to bring in several top recruits for U of I. All while he was no where near a top assistant or lead recruiter. Wayne McClain was the man for ILL until recently, so Webster was not responsible for hitting the trail hard. If you know so much, you would know that Chicago is a very funny city in regards to high school hoops. There are many scumbags there and they form opinions strong about coaches and programs. When a coach or program is respected that coach or program is fair game for all the city kids. But when a coach or program is unknown or not liked, no recruit worth a penny will go there. Its just how that city is for some reason. Illinois could not get a top flight player from Chicago for years because it was perceived that the coaches did not make Chicago a priority in recruiting. Webster is well liked by the powers that be in and around Chicago, so it will be easier for him to come in and land a top prospect. Regardless of what you say or think, the ability to go into hoops hotbeds like Chicago and pull out a top 100 player is big.
