Dont worry this is not a thread bashing trae, im sure some of you are dissapointed. I've been thinking a lot throughout the last few games as to what would be best for trae. Feel free to share your opinions im curious what everybody thinks, and that includes those that dont like what golden is doing. So pretty much what my question is is this: Golden obviously dreams of playing in the NBA, for him to do that what is best?

1. Trae moves to SG and someone else plays PG, id roll with washpun i guess and just give him help bringing up the ball. This option is best for Golden short term, and would remain to be seen on the impact of the team. CCM brings in another PG in the off-season(assuming we can get a scholly), unless he feels that Stanton is sufficient and keeps golden at the SG. Golden can play the position that he has always played and probably feels more comfortable at right now. Trae probably sees his points, fg%, and rebounds all go up and his assists and turnovers go down. As for the team it would probably have a positive impact depending on the level of PG you can bring in. As for Golden while he would look good at SG, he would be told the same thing Lofton was if you are going to be drafted it will be as a PG, you need to learn to play PG if you want to play in the league. Ths option most likely hurts his chance of playing in the NBA.

2. Trae stays at PG and we continue with the lineup that we have for the remaining schedule, change it up some if you want, not the point. In the off season Trae works as much as allowed by the ncaa with coach webster. For those that dont know about coach webster(he played PG at wisconsin and received all conference honors for 3 consecutive years, he holds the career assists record, 2nd in career steals, holds season records for assists and 3pt f%. he also coached at illinois where he received some credit for the development of nba all-star deron williams) this guy knows how to play the position. When trae cant work with webster he attends as many PG camps as he possible can, im not sure what the best are, or works with a private trainer that knows the position. If this means skipping the RTL im all for it, he needs to eat, sleep and $hit PG in the off-season if he does this. In short term we probably dont lose that much this year because as has been discussed he is our best option at point right now so it doesnt matter. You are taking a risk for next year though, if you decide you are sticking with golden and it doesnt work out then you are back in the same situation as this year, you hope that stanton can step in for him at that point, but who knows. For golden though this would be the best thing for him IMO, as far as his chances to play in the NBA. If he is going to make it in the league, which you know is his dream, it is going to be at PG. The kid has a great work ethic we saw that by the work he put in this last off-season, and how he has improved(talk of most improved in sec) so i have no doubt if given the resources he can improve greatly at PG. If he does improve at PG and become an all sec caliber pg then this is huge for the team. You have landry being able to learn behind him for a year, and golden becoming a great PG makes us a contender in the SEC.

I think staying at the PG is best for him and the team. While he has had a few issues, he still leads the team in ppg, leads the SEC in assists, and has played well for the most part. Don't forget that Deron Williams wasn't the PG at IL. Dee Brown ran the pt most of the time and Deron only filled that role when Dee Brown was taking a blow. Luther Head also played a lil pt. Deron was primarily a SG in their 3 guard lineup. His PG skills were developed more in the NBA than in college IMO.

your correct on the dee brown situation, that goes to further my point though about him. he worked with the guards and put them into the NBA, thats impressive. also, the work he put in at wisconsin is pretty impressive, thats not a no name program.

trae coming out of close games in the last 2 minutes is whats best for the team.He has hurt the team more than he has helped them in close games.

Recruit Massengale over to the men's team. Then Trae can play his natural position.

seriously? i understand your aggravation with him but please try to be realistic. who do you play at PG? NOBODY IS BETTER! i have no problem with trae not getting the last shot it should go down low, but to go as far as saying he shouldnt be on the floor is absolutely asinine.

Deron Williams is the 2nd best pick n roll PG in the NBA right now IMO. He has great range, sets up the screens perfectly, and has great vision.

edit: Steve Nash is the best pick n roll RG even at his age IMO.

I'm sorry, but right now there is no one on the team that deserves to have the last shot more than Golden. You do realize that last night he was the one that sent that game into OT with his floater right?

I agree, we have to have Trae on the floor and I hope Stokes is going to be our go to guy.

i dont have a problem with trae taking the shot and thought he got a pretty good look to win it too. i would just prefer it atleast enter the post where we have a clear advantage and force them to either foul or double down, leaving a wide open shooter instead.

i love nash. incredible ball handler always looking to pass but will make you pay if you forget about him with his shooting ability.

Just an fyi since this is in the basketball forum, vote for Chris Loften on sports nation for the top 3 point shooter since the 3 point line was introduced. Last I checked he we second behind J J Redick. Link is on the volnation front page.

Stokes gave up several easy baskets being slow to get back on defense. He'll get a nice coaching session in the film room. Stokes didn't play in OT until Maymon fouled out with 1:26 left IIRC. What was Stokes fg% last night. I know neither team shot well, but I would venture to say he was below both team avg's. He played like a Frosh last night. Had some good moments, but his defensive lapses hurt us pretty bad. I am not upset by it, I expected his youth to show. CCM did the right thing by playing the more experienced players in OT IMO.

He's the best option there right now. Hopefully Martin can scour the JUCO ranks and get a real PG and let Golden go back to where he needs to be.

I think he was gassed. It wasnt a trust thing he played the final 10 minutes of the half.

So your not into the idea of coach Webster working with him and him going to camps to get better. He has perfect size to be a good PG.

You will be surprised then. Stokes finished 5-9 55%, while Tennessee as a team shot 40% and Georgia 35%. Stokes will benefit greatly from this 1/2 year, if nothing else will show him what needs work.

do whatever, do not start Washpun. Hopefully he'll work on his Offensive game in the offseason and be a solid play off the bench GBO!

Right on. He did get ripped a couple times going up which I am surethey are only counting as TO's which would have him on par, but not bad at all. He was solid on the glass. I love the conviction he attacks rebounds with. This 1/2 year will be huge for him. I agree 100% with that.
