Training camp like recess

“Personally, this has been the funnest camp I’ve been a part of,” Tennessee’s senior starting left guard said after practice Sunday afternoon. “The coaches are fun and energetic. Coach Jones finds a way to make practice fun, and honestly, I feel like practice has been a recess.

“I’ve looked forward to going out there every day and improving, and if things need to be corrected, I’m eager to get out there and correct it. It’s just fun. You have to find a way to make it fun, because it makes it not as miserable, but this has been fun and it’s been a great experience.”

In case anybody wonders about the rest of Bullard's statement.

how dare these football players have fun. they should just play for money like the nfl players do and they give 100% every practice and every down of the season

Still don't like the analogy. I have NEVER heard any football player worth a damn (until now) compare Training camp to recess.

I have fun at work too, but it is still work...not play time.

So, last week everyone was concerned that Jones was being too tough, because of all the injuries? This week, he's too soft because one player said "recess"?! You old farts need to get laid, gettin' pretty sad. Get over the ALTERNATE uni's or better yet...STFU!!!!

Some of you are reading way too much into this analogy. It seems pretty clear to me that Bullard is expressing that he is having fun out there, as opposed to lazing around on the swing set.

Are you being serious? I honestly can't tell.

If you aren't having fun doing what you're doing, why do it? People forget these are young guys out there doing something they love. Let them have fun. I'd be worried if they weren't.

I don't think Bullard is using the word recess the way you are implying. He is not comparing it to play time. When one says something is a recess, they mean it to be different then their usual work. IE: they have never had so muh fun getting out there and working.

re·cess

a. A temporary cessation of the customary activities of an engagement, occupation, or pursuit.

I'm fully aware of the meaning of recess. By all indications of context recess as playtime is exactly what he meant.

I like Jones and the alternate Unis.

Damn! Can we just play a game already. Getting so tired of threads about people getting irked because a pass was not completed propery (even though completed), Jones being to hard on guys, and now we are concerned because a few guys seem to enjoy practice a little too much!
