Transfer Portal 21-22

Glad our staff was organized and did their work early. Nice to have gotten a couple great players before all of this madness. Our staff can focus more on building relationships with great young players instead of chasing around portal entrants.
Exactly. Give them credit, they addressed needs early. Of course that risks missing someone awesome who comes along later, but OTOH frees up time for big task now at hand - blending all the awesome ingredients they've got for a major feast. Becomes more obvious everyday, thank you portal, that team chemistry is a huge factor.

Give me Hollingshead or Taylor Jones. Reese seems to have an attitude, but that could be fixed in the right program. And we were in Reese’s top 5 I’m pretty sure. Not sure where we were with Hollingshead or Jones out of high school.

Love both of the aforementioned players and would LOVE either of them. Kennedy Brown is also worth a look.

As I gushed in another post, Martinez is the one I’d really like. She seems like a Kellie type player as well…

Said upthread, poor Mimi appears to have made a really bad decision - all in defense of Holly Warlick.

I think she would have loved Kellie too if she’d given her a chance. She is a great kid and I really liked her game. She would go get you a rebound and she was developing a nice shooting stroke. She languished on the bench at Maryland after she helped carry them most of last season.

Wasn't sure the current relationship btw Brenda and her former underling Jeff. Here in Vol Sports Hate Land, we just lump them together as deplorables.

From what I understand they did not part ways on good terms. Have not liked each other since. They avoid speaking about each other and I think they have only played one time since Maryland left for the Big 10 and that was in the tournament.

Yes, TK needs a strong backup so she can post up hard. She had to be less aggressive after Green went out to prevent fouls. If she wasn’t on the floor we took a huge step back in the post. A backup like Martinez would allow her to go really hard for 20-25 minutes and be much more effective.
My main question still is why someone so talented with at most two years left want to go somewhere to be a back up for a year. I am missing something here, as I truly confused about why anyone would think that she would chose that course unless they have orange tinted glasses on.

To win…and be on a great team. I don’t really think the staff is presenting it as a “backup to TK” as I have described it. She’ll be another really important piece of the machine. She’ll play nearly equal minutes even if not starting, will win a ton of basketball games, elevate her WNBA profile and social profile and likely have a ton of fun.

What’s not to like about that?

Sure she could go to Kentucky and score 25 points a game but they’re probably going to win about 10 next season.

Generally, I'd agree with this, but maybe not with a back up for Key. Key is so foul prone it's reasonable you'd get lots of minutes. Also, if it's a fairly young post and they're really good, it's also reasonable to think you'd actually begin to take Key's minutes by the end of the season. I may get slammed for this, and I think TK is a wonderful young lady, but if she isn't able to substantially up her overall game it's likely as a senior she'll start to give way to a younger player anyway.

So I say a fundamentally sound, culture good fit post with at least 2 years remaining who understands the role is what we need.

Reese was in Tennessee for an official visit. Another one that Knows Jordon Horston really well and the parents are also friends. I think I would Take Hollingshead though, although Reese a tough player and a match-up nightmare for most teams....

Mock drafts for 2023 have Tamari going Number 4. She has improved every year she has been on campus. Doubt she will lose many minutes if any at all....

I think Mimi Collins in place of Lou Brown that first season we would have probably won 2-3 more games. Kellie is big on that 4 spot and we really struggled their season 1 and somewhat season 2 until Kasi started coming on in the end of the season.

Agree to disagree. TK has improved in a few areas, mostly shot blocking ability, but not in others, certainly not consistently. If she continues to not help us offensively and we bring in a post who can, I think the Sr starts giving way to the younger player eventually.
