Transfer Portal 21-22

The irony is that her classmate and teammate Jessica Shepard open the floodgates for players to apply for waivers for immediate eligibility.

Shepard was also one of those (if not the one) who started the trend of getting your coach investigated/fired and then bouncing. Sold out Yori, who was a great coach IMO, and then left Nebraska high and dry and got a waiver to play immediately at ND.

Westbrook did the exact same thing except they denied her waiver.

Not a fan of players who sell out their coaches/programs and then leave. You chose that school and that coach. Nobody forced you. If it doesn’t work out, that’s unfortunate, but not a reason to try to tear down the entire program with you when you leave.

To me it’s a lot like accepting a job you end up hating. You’re best to just leave and forget about it. If you try to damage them when you leave you get sued....something we could very well see. Actually surprised we haven’t seen a Coach sue a player for defamation of character yet. Will not be shocked when it happens.

How did Westbrook get Holly fired?

She didn't.

Then why did the poster say she did?

I'm just checking to see if they are one of those idiots back when Holly got fired that said her little interview after the UCLA game was why Holly got fired, not Holly's inability to coach out of a wet paper bag.

Holly got Holly fired.

Westbrook disparaged her, and the entire program on national television though. If you’re going to ask for a coaching change right after you lay an egg in the NCAA tourney and then you get your way it’s pretty chickensh*t to transfer.

I also firmly believe Evina threw several games while she was at UT. I have 0 respect for her.

It is not complicated to the person making the post, but when a poster uses pronouns (she, they, etc.) in a long thread like this one it is not always obvious who is being referred back to. It helps if names are repeated in follow-on posts.

What would have been helpful is to just clarify whether Collins was dismissed or left of her own accord whether than questioning how I got the idea from your posts that she was dismissed. I got lost in the she's and they's.

What would be helpful is to not bring in players that aren't part of the discussion. It's not difficult to follow a discussion when there's quoting involved. When you click on author of the quoted post, it takes you back to that post, and you can see if they quoted someone else in theirs, and you can follow the whole chain. If you can't do that, that's your issue, not mine.

Not to mention ... you weren't who I was talking to. I don't have an issue with you joining in the discussion, but don't act like it's my responsibility to clarify something to you because you're confused when I wasn't even talking to you to begin with.

Back to this nonsense. All Evina said after being prompted by a reporter after a loss was that changes need to be made regarding "off court stuff" and with the staff. That was it and no direct mention of Holly. Maybe not the most diplomatic thing to say but when a program is tanking, Evina's comments were not exactly earth shattering. People were saying much worse on social media.

As for the throwing games, that it is just baseless character assassination. In that season, Evina was always the player who tried to step and make the plays. Some games she did and some games she did not but she gave left it on the court.

Then said Evina did the "exact same thing". That's not even remotely close to the exact same thing.

I don't recall Evina saying anything about the program, but she said the program needed change right after the season had just ended, which everyone with a fully functioning brain at the time thought was true. I never saw the big deal with that interview and still don't to this day. But then again, I never carried Holly's water like many of our fans did. They were the ones that were so offended by that interview.

"Threw several games". I don't have respect for her, either, especially after what went down post-UT, but UT wouldn't even have made the tourney that year without her (and TBH probably shouldn't have even made it anyway). She was tied for leading the team in scoring with Rennia, lead the team in steals, and had the team's best A/TO ratio, despite fans constantly complaining about her TOs. You're entitled to your opinion but that opinion isn't rooted in reality.

How dare you call Fulmer an idiot! ;)

As yes, oh virtuous one.

Her comments were way out of bounds for the moment and set the program back about a decade. Forgive me for not singing her praises.

She’s a low character individual and I’m not changing my mind. I found her conduct around her exit to be egregious. She then went to UCONN and insinuated she had been mistreated promoting ol Geno to call for an investigation into our WBB program.

All because she’s a spoiled brat not used to being told no and she didn’t get her waiver.

You are so dramatic. I'm not an Evina fan at all but you're being so dramatic over what transpired in her time at UT. Be pissed at her going to UConn and the waiver stuff, but what you're saying about her "comments" and throwing games just makes you look and sound ridiculous.

The main reason behind the controversy behind waiver Shepard stayed with Nebraska for another season after Yori was fired and then she transferred. She got was when Yori was fired, decided she didn't like and then left. At least Westbrook left after she threw Holly under the bus. One can think Holly was a bad coach and not like Westbrook publicly airing them out. In the end I guess it was worth it because Shepard won a national championship and Westbrook will win one too barring a miracle.

Sorry it bothers you so much.

As far as "throwing games," there was that infamous game with Vandy in which both teams tried to throw the game (thus cancelling each other's efforts).

That one should have been entered into the record books as a loss for each school if only for the stank it put on women's basketball at the time.

That’s one of the games I’m referring to.

Sorry you're bothered by people challenging your own statements that aren't rooted in reality.

I’m entitled to maintain my opinion. Just because your view of the situation is different doesn’t make your opinion anymore valid.

It doesn’t bother me that you want to challenge. You’re wasting your time if you think I’m going to change my mind though.

At least Westbrook left after she threw Holly under the bus.

Holly wasn't "thrown under the bus", Holly WAS the bus. She was the head coach that made lots of money. Also that's a rich statement about a coach that never, ever took responsibility in press conferences about her teams' piss poor performances and consistently threw her players under the bus while looking like a deer in headlights anytime there was a mic in front of her.

Ah, the ad hominem one. You can call me names but that does not change the fact that you are talking a load of crap.

I’m talking MY load of crap though. I always own my posts. When I’m wrong I apologize and correct. We all view the Westbrook situation differently. You can post exactly what she said all you want. We all know the subtext was “my mommy and I want a new coach or I’m leaving.”

Then she left anyway and continued to trash the program.

I’m entitled to maintain my opinion. Just because your view of the situation is different doesn’t make your opinion anymore valid.

My opinion is rooted in reality and IS more valid because I have facts on my side. Despite not liking her, I'm not triggered by Evina, unlike you.

You’re wasting your time if you think I’m going to change my mind though.

I'm not trying to change your mind. To be quite frank, I don't give a damn what you do with the information I provide in my rebuttal. I'm trying to illustrate that you're going on emotion, not facts. People can think whatever they want but that doesn't mean they aren't delusional.

Also, this is a public forum. We may be responding to each other, but others are looking on. It's always nice to throw out some actual evidence and facts for the peanut gallery so they can make up their minds accordingly.
