Transfer Portal Thread

I've seen mention that Kessler wants to go somewhere and be able to work outside to improve his shooting. That makes me wonder about his fit here. Aren't we looking for someone to mix it up in the paint? Seems like a square peg/round hole type situation to me if true.

Depends on how roster plays out. We allowed Pons to hang out there with Fulky on team. If Fulky is back maybe they are more willing. Is he good at shooting 3s?

I think Aidoo could give you a solid 25 mpg, but I don't think you can run an offense through him right now. It's all in how you use him. To be fair there are very few bigs that you can run an offense through and feel good about it. Those guys are super rare.
And I guess that's what I'm saying. For a staff that wants to run their offense thru the post, it's tough to expect much from him, next year. Even defensively, can he get position and defend without fouling? That was also a problem for KA as a freshman.

Looking at the numbers we have 4 spots left, assuming Tamba is indeed getting 1 that’s 3, have to think they wait out things for BHH so that’s 2. It’s been said previously that the staff ideally would like to hold a spot open for mid year guys that come available, if that’s the case that may mean just 1. It’s been said they would like to have Tyreke Key so maybe they’d give up the mid year guy if it meant landing Key.

Regardless, that only leaves 1 spot, so it makes some sense as to why they aren’t going to just take some big guys and are waiting to try their luck with Kessler, Aidoo, Dante. So landing 1 of Kessler/Aidoo/Dante and ultimately landing BHH give you...

Chandler/Vescovi
Powell/Bailey
James/Mashack/Diboundje
Fulk/BHH/ORN
KesslerAidooDante/Plavsic/Tamba

Makes sense to me why they aren’t just taking big dudes to take them.

But we wanted to play Keon Johnson, Jaden Springer or potentially BHH big minutes, all guys not too far off from Aidoo’s ranking? People are expecting Mashack to contribute but he’s rated lower than Aidoo, just doesn’t make much sense.

He’s rated similarly to Mark Williams (Duke), Hunter Dickinson (Michigan) and Clifford Omoruyi (Rutgers) who all played 15+mpg for their respective teams.
See my above response, but to expound, size and position matters. Johnson and Springer are guards, a position that generally allows for quicker development and production. Mark Williams is 7-0 and 245 lbs. Dickinson is 7-1, 255. Aidoo is 6-11, 215. Your examples were far more physically developed to contribute. Williams is maybe Aidoo's freshman ceiling, which is fine. That would be a really good year from him. Expecting Dickinson results from Aidoo as a freshman is a fool's errand, I think.

MUCH better roster

Like I said, I’ll criticize away if we go into next year with the current situation in the front court, but there’s quite a few names out there.

Walker Kessler- seems we are Top 3

Jonas Aidoo- if we hire Gainey have to think we are front runner

N’faly Dante- if he enters the portal as expected most think we will be the team to beat

BHH- most believe we are the current leader

Tamba- expected to commit and reclassify

Landing 1 of those guys (non Tamba) changes the dynamic quite a bit in the post, and there could still be more names.
So we just don't talk about it in the meantime?

Aidoo is a bit bigger than KA, he’s also been playing a lot longer than KA which contributed to some of KA’s fouls was being out of position.

It wouldn't make sense to me that they'd be willing to give up the mid year guy for Key but not be willing to do so if Kessler and Aidoo want to come here

Didn’t say I expected Dickinson results, I’m simply saying I think expecting more than KA gave as a freshman is probably fair.

if he's good at 3 pt shooting, I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

I didn’t say they wouldn’t? I doubt they’re getting 2 of Kessler/Aidoo/Dante, but I’m sure if they could they would. The point is Tennessee likes those guys more than Gardner/Gurley and wants to try their luck with them.

Liam Robbins...7 feet tall. 11.7pts, 6.6 rbs transferring from Minnesota. Very good scorer down low from the 2 games I watched last season

Just speculation. Kessler went many consecutive games this year logging only single digit minutes. I would assume playing time is much what he wants.

No, I think it's fair to expect more than KA provided as a freshman. I don't believe I said that should be the acceptable expectation. As you said, he's been playing longer and is stronger, but he is still raw offensively. Mark Williams's freshman season was comparable to KA's senior season. I think that is Aidoo’s ceiling as a freshman.

That’s fair, and I think we could use 15mpg 7ppg 5rpg 1.5bpg in a major way...especially considering he’d likely be around a 2nd year where we need even more from him.

Is there a website that shows where transfers are signing similar to HS recruits? I am interested in who is doing well in the transfer portal.

Also, not trying to argue Aidoo is better than Kessler or Dante etc. I think all of these guys have positives and negatives to them, but I think all would greatly improve our front court situation.
Oh, no doubt they would. Our front court is a nightmare, currently. But, if Fulk returns (probable), we land BHH (possible), and we land 1/3 of those 3 aforementioned guys, we have an entirely different outlook combined with our guard play. It just gives us so many more options.
