It's not a stretch to think that the SEC could be the best conference in college basketball next season. The amount of talent transferring into this. conference is ridiculous.
Right now, MSU has added DJ Jeffries and Garrison Brooks as transfers. Those are some solid additions for sure, IMO. Not a stellar recruiting class, but also not bad either. It's hard to keep up with all the transfers but it seems like Miss State has gotten a few quality guys. Like you said, the SEC is shaping up to be a dog fight next year. Don't expect anyone to get through the season without 4 or 5 conference losses.
Wow. He must have gotten an offer from Kentucky.Iowa SO guard, CJ Fredrick has entered the portal. 6-3 shooting guard who is reminiscent of Justin Powell (both from Northern KY, too). Career 46.6% 3-pt shooter (83-178). Big Ten All-Freshman team, 2 seasons ago. Had offers from Iowa, Indiana, Penn St, and Xavier coming out of high school.
Not a PG, so doubt we take a look, but kid can shoot the lights out, and if Vescovi were to move on, I think we'd maybe kick the tires, there. Not much of a threat to leave early, and would have 3 seasons of eligibility, including his bonus year.
I'd love to add him. You can never have too many shooters.Iowa SO guard, CJ Fredrick has entered the portal. 6-3 shooting guard who is reminiscent of Justin Powell (both from Northern KY, too). I think the SEC will be good next year, but I think "stacked" is reaching a bit.
Some really good transfers are coming in and there are some strong recruiting classes, but the league is also losing a lot of talent to the NBA and transfer portal both. I think overall the SEC will be improved, but I'm not willing to say they'll be at or near the top of CBB next season just yet.
Several of those teams will have to schedule better OOC and make hay, because they will eat each other up in conference play.I think there are 9 NCAA tournament teams in the league next year:
-Tennessee
-Alabama
-Arkansas
-Kentucky
-Auburn (pending investigation)
-Florida
-LSU
-Mississippi State
-Ole Miss
And then teams like Vandy and TAMU will take a big step from where they are now, but not be quite good enough for the tournament.
In most pre-season polls by analysts, they have anywhere from 4-5 SEC schools in the Top 15.
It's just my opinion, but I definitely feel like the SEC took a huge step forward this off-season. So much talent coming in from the portal, great recruiting classes, and a lot of returning players based on the extra year from COVID-19. I think the conference champion is going to have 4-5 losses.
Completely agree on Florida. Could be Mike White's last year there maybe?Several of those teams will have to schedule better OOC and make hay, because they will eat each other up in conference play.
Florida, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State come to mind. The recruiting/transfer classes for those three are pretty paltry.
MSU brings in Brooks and Jeffries to add to Stewart, Molinar, Tolu Smith, and Deivon Smith, but may lose Ado. They lack some depth, but if they keep Ado, they maintain a strong front-end talented lineup.
At Ole Miss, Shuler and White do not plan to use their extra year and Khadim Sy is in the portal. They add Tye Fagan from Georgia and Nysier Brooks from Miami thru the portal, but neither guy is an impact player. Their best addition will be top-50 PG, Daeshun Ruffin.
Florida adds Kowacie Reeves as their only freshman, who Tennessee heavily pursued. They add 4 transfers, too, but none are considered difference-makers, honestly. Florida actually could be a mess, next year. They lose Mann, Lewis, Locke, Osifo, Payne, and Glover. Keyontae Johnson is in question on his future.
I don’t think you can rule it out, but it would be the first time he’d miss the NCAAT since year 1. I just see a team that could really struggle given that they don’t have the talent they are accustomed to, and he is still the coach. This is the year that he can either change his perceived legacy as a poor coach, or he’ll be exposed as one who relies on out-talenting other teams.Completely agree on Florida. Could be Mike White's last year there maybe?
Smith from Ms State transferred to GT.Several of those teams will have to schedule better OOC and make hay, because they will eat each other up in conference play.
