What I liked:
-the 3D and the action pieces were excellent. The 3D felt like an important part of the film, instead of something that is shoehorned in or used as a gimmick in most films today
-specifically, the opening battle on Cybertron. Would like to see more, but it would be hella expensive
-thankfully the potty humor (no pun intended, referring to a specific scene) is toned down and is generally acceptable
-Laserbeak. Very creepy.
-the Wreckers, even tho they have NASCAR vehicles as their alts. Still, they also leave me thinking how much better the Dinobots would be in the role. They've used so many animal Transformers (and stuff that doesn't even transform) now, there's no excuse
-Wheelie and Brains. Should've been the comedic relief in the 2nd movie, instead of the racist twins. "What a clusterfu--"
-the plot twists/surprises
-story nods to the old cartoon show, namely "Megatron's Master Plan" and "The Ultimate Doom". Also a minor nod to the Armada show
-human vaporizations haha
-Patrick Dempsey's character, and Dutch
-Sentinel Prime, and Nimoy's portrayal of him. Liked his Spock dialogue
What I didn't like:
-the movie ran too long. Could've stood some harsher editing
-at the end of the day, the worst and most unforgivable part of these movies to me are the robot designs. In a lot of the action sequences, it is hard to tell what is going on, and who is fighting who. This is in large part to the Decepticons all looking alike, and looking like big tangles of gray junk. The designs are too messy, and too organic. In every Transformers TV show I've ever seen, and every comic I've ever read, regardless of the variations of the design, whether it be G1, Beast Wars, or whatever, you could tell who was fighting who
-the Decepticons came out of these films looking really weak, especially Megatron and Starscream. Starscream isn't even a shadow of the character he was in the old show, where he would betray Megatron at the drop of a hat. And to put Megatron in perspective, he killed more Autobots in the '86 movie than he did all three of these films combined
-some story discrepencies between this movie and the first two. pretty much renders the first two plots obsolete
-I like how he kicks butt, but I'm not a big fan of psycho Optimus
-Cybertron's design. Unlike the robots, which are too messy, this was too generic. It felt lazy. Looked like a big waffle. Or a honeycomb.
I think they could've combined the first movie with this one, taking out the whole Allspark thing from the first one, and using the 3rd's plot device instead
