VFL Legend Reportedly Top Target for Mid-State Prep Powerhouse Head Coaching Vacancy

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Lipscomb officials have targeted Jason Witten, the former NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year and Texas Sports Hall of Fame inductee, to be the Mustangs' next head coach," Brice reported. "In fact, multiple sources in both Witten's native Tennessee and in Texas told FootballScoop this week that Lipscomb officials already had flown to Dallas within the past week to meet with Witten about replacing Dilfer, who elevated Lipscomb to a nationally recognized program that was featured multiple times on ESPN before accepting an Football Bowls Subdivision head coaching job last week at UAB."

Please happen!!!!!!!!

All these “Lipscomb lovers” all over middle Tn is getting old in a hurry. Let’s see how good your school and program is when you’re not buying kids from all over the country. Gonna wish they didn’t move to D2 AAA
Lol. Now they’re trying to land Witten as their new head coach.

Witten does not come close to Dilfer as a coach. Dilfer had connections with HS all across the country. I think it’s cool for the area to have Witten as a coach, but not sure he’s gonna bring in talent from all over the country…

UAB will really shat the bed if they hire Dilfer as head football coach. UAB is about to return to the crapper that they were once stuck in for over a decade.

I agree..He will do well at UAB.
Hope so, always been a fan of his, back to his Fresno State days. He was amazing in that 93 season and he and Shuler were the guys. He’s handled a parents worst nightmare in an admirable way, so I’ve respected him even more since that.

Hope he does well…..as a BGA grad….glad he’s out of Nashville.
haha …. I went to Lipscomb and BGA but was a hellion and at both schools agreed to “mutually part ways “ 😂

BGA had a solid football tradition prior but both football programs were pretty near awful in the mid to late 80’s , especially DLHS but from the early 90’s on have certainly turned that around .

It’s safe to say that things aren’t working out. UAB is currently down 44-3 to Army, following last week’s 71-20 demolition at the hands of Tulane. About to fall to 1-5 on the season.
