I'm guessing

Heard this today on 104.5 and it was a really good trivia question...

So if you also listened don't be a tool and ruin it... I'll give the correct answer in a few days...

Question: What 3 cities across the U.S. rank in the top 10 in television rankings for both college football and basketball....

I could care less about tv ratings. We aren't sh** unless we have good attendance.

But I'll guess Knox, Miami, and gains

These are the ESPN football rankings so I would think the same, or at least close for b-ball.

1. Birmingham, Ala. - 8.9

2. Greenville, S.C. - 4.7

3. Knoxville, Tenn. - 4.6

4. New Orleans, La. - 3.7

5T. Jacksonville, Fla. - 3.6

5T. Columbus, Ohio - 3.6

7. Atlanta, Ga. - 3.5

8. Oklahoma City, Okla. - 3.4

9. Nashville, Tenn. - 3.3

10T. Memphis, Tenn. - 3.1

10T. Austin, Texas - 3.1

I would wager the bolded ones don't give a damn about basketball, at least compared to football

Knoxville, because the OP wouldn't have posted it here if we were not on the list, Gainesville....and probably birmingham....in no order. but I bet those are the three on the list.

Here's basketball info from last year. I doubt things have changed much....

Top 10 Markets
No. 1 Louisville: 4.5 rating
No. 2 Greensboro: 3.5 rating
No. 3 Kansas City: 2.8 rating
No. 4 Columbus: 2.7 rating
Raleigh-Durham 2.7 rating
No. 6 Charlotte: 2.3 rating
No. 7 Cincinnati: 2.1 rating
No. 8 Dayton: 2.0 rating
No. 9 Indianapolis: 1.8 rating
Knoxville: 1.8 rating
so it looks like the answer is Knoxville, Columbus and some town I'm missing.

Nope, the answer, for combined basketball and football ratings, is, drum roll:

1. Birmingham
2. Louisville (only because they are no. 1 in basketball)
3. Knoxville
4. Nashville (tie)
4. Greenville (tie)
5. Columbus, OH

Surprisingly, Greenville is ranked no. 2 in football and Knoxville is no. 3. No surprise will be seen in the fact that no California city was ranked in the top 25. Additionally, only Jacksonville (10) and Ft. Myers (25), among cities in Florida, were ranked. In case the original poster was using a different source, mine is derived from The Top 25 Most Passionate College Sports Cities : Outkick The Coverage

Memphis making top 10 in football is a very strong showing for UT fans. I know there are tigger and Ole Miss fans there but in football the bluff city belongs to UT.

You forgot to mention Arkansas, Alabama, LSU, and Mississippi State.

UT is #1, but it's not as cut and dry as you make it out to be
