Most African species are smaller I believe so may be better for a tank that size but there are are smaller south Americans as well

The Peacocks are beautiful, especially if they become dominant. Other nice Africans are the Zebras, Kenyi, Bumblebee, and Electric yellow and blue.

Freshwater tanks are far easier and cheaper to both stock and maintain.

I kept some Koi and a Pictus catfish for the better part of 8 years in a 55 gallon tank. Very cool and hearty fish.

Tried my hand at a 10 gallon micro saltwater tank. I kept a single Clownfish in it for several years. It was slowly taken over by red algae.

90 gallon African Cichlid tank in my office.

sweet i keep central and south american cichlids 125 gallon and 75 gallon in my bedroom both decorated with orange and white gravel and orange plants.african cichlids are very attractive

I have a 75 gallon tank with a variety of different cichlids. A red one, yellow one and an orange one. A pair of "convict" cichlids. One that I'm not sure what it is (got it at PetSmart). A "demasoni" that has been breeding like crazy. The yellow one and the demasoni have bred and produced a several purple colored fish with yellow bands on their sides. Pretty cool. I got the aquarium in June of 2014. Never changed the water. I do add water to keep it full. It has a 120 gallon canister mounted under the bottom in the stand. Also have one HoB filter as well. No fish has died, except those who have jumped out onto the floor.

The aquarium gravel was segregated into areas of black, white & brown. Multiple gravel cleanings and the fish digging around have mixed them all together. I forgot about the catfish in there as well. Two ghost catfish, two regular catfish, several emerald cats and some assorted others.

Aquariums are cool. I raised German Blue Rams for a few years. They were fun.

A friend in college had a big ol' Oscar in a giant tank and then a small tank for guppy breeding. We used to have midnight sacrifices before tests to insure good grades.

I know it was years ago,but do you have a picture ?

I had an Oscar in a 10 or so gallon tank,he or she was an awesome fish

when he was a wee little fishy,i feed him a night crawler from a fishing trip

I thought I had killed him,he had the worm in his mouth and was crapping a huge turd out the other end,for days and days and wasn't hardly moving

he survived that lol and was the best fish ever lol he was great at feeding time ,I got rid of him because of all the crap he made and he had out grew the tank

he was 11.5 inches long in a small tank,he would knock the lid off the tank, why he didn't get shocked I have no idea :)

Sorry, I don't. Sadly, I lost the tank after a long snow weekend when I lost power to the filter. I got discouraged and realized I couldn't do it on my own.

We now have a salt tank maintained by a company in Knoxville. It's not terribly impressive, but the kids like the Nemo fish.

I used to have an Albino oscar that had orange markings. I named him Smokey. I could hold food on my finger outside the tank, and he would jump out of the water and take it.

One day a friend came in and pointed his finger by the fishtank, and Smokey jumped out of the tank and fell to his death going after my friends finger. True story.

Pavlov training gone wrong?

I expect some koi pond talk in this thread. Just for me to get some ideas and learn a few pitfalls.
