To be fair, until Brantley got hurt our playbook was much thicker. Again, if it's a case where you flat out don't like Weis, that's fine, and you've admitted as much.
As far as Kerwin Bell goes, he was blessed with ridiculous backfield talent his freshman year (Anderson, Hampton and JLWilliams), in addition to being protected by the best offensive line in school history. They called it The Great Wall, remember?
And unlike Brissett, Kerwin Bell had the luxury of redshirting his true freshman year.
Our 1984 offensive unit was from another planet compared to what Weis has to work with. Hell, we barely ran worth a damn between the tackles against Tennessee.
Bottom line, our offensive struggles were expected against LSU. Our defense crapping the bed again was not expected.
Im understand what you are saying, I just think that the QuarterBack merry-go-round hurt us more than leaving the freshman in and letting him run the (limited) offense would have. I think Brissett has some pretty decent skills. I think he would have done an admirable job, and given us a better chance to move the ball than the gimmicky stuff that we went to. Call the plays he can run and dont be predictable. Having most of the week to prepare him, and not having him prepared is Jabbas fault. Brissett is much more capable than we made him appear. #predictable <--sorry, couldnt resist
The Defense. sigh. Yes, I agree 100%. Ive just been too ticked about the O-fence to build up that rant.
But you did bring up some great memories in this thread:
1) What an incredible bunch of running backs. Man, those boys could run the football (and yes, that is something we are missing now. OL and RB are completely different end of the spectrum)
2) Kerwin Bell threw one of the most catchable balls I have ever seen. He could strong arm it, and he could loft it. You almost always had a chance to catch it.
3) Someday when we get private messaging back I will say more, but I dont want to sound like Im trying to sound like I know something I dont. Just saying those were great times.
d) The ol Sombrero!!! I was in the marching band at UF in 1983 (post football career
lol
We played Pregame for the SuperBowl in Tampa. Our seats were on the rim between lower and upper bowls. . the concrete benches around the aisle. We had to stand on the benches to see any of the game. Sucked for seats, but great for lifting beers out of the vendors trays as they held them overhead while managing traffic on the aisle. Great times!!! Marched it with a kneecap that was in two pieces thanks to my attempt at making the team as a walkon. Thanks Tony Lilly. #HelmetToKneecap <--oh crud, I did it again.
