Weis' playcalling sucked all day. Didnt matter who was behind center, if you are going to be that predictable, you will never beat a team of that caliber.

I have a friend that played football at ND. The happiest day in the last 5 years was when Weis left. Now the turds got him! bwaaa haaaa haaaa You deserve it.

If you are down to your 3rd string QB making his first start on the road, chances are you will never beat a team of that caliber.

1) I never expected to win. But that was total chaos. It was unnecessary. Pick a quarterback and play him. That was too good of a defense to go gimmick on. Tired of that crap. Brissett is a good enough QB to go in and sling the ball around on safe passes. But RUN, RUN, PASS, PUNT is going to get your quarterback killed against a defense like that.

2) If the play calling doesnt get better, Weis needs to be run out of town. I dont like him for many reasons, the first of which is that he sucks as a college coach.

d) tell that to Kerwin Bell (EDIT: Thinking back, I believe Kerwin lost his first game AT MiHammy, but he was put in there to play and left there. He was either 4th or 5th string going into the first week of the season)

Kerwin did lose his first game against Miami. The game was played in the old sombrero (Tampa Stadium). I was there, and it was my first encounter with Miami fans.

As for UF's poor showing the last two weeks, do you hold the defensive coaches accountable at all? Do you want to run Dan Quinn out of town also?

I expected very little from UF's offense after Brantley got hurt.

I hold Quinn partially responsible, of course. But Jabba isnt even giving the defense a chance because we are not sustaining any sort of drive or ball control on offense. We are not putting the offense in a position to be successful by changing out the QB position every 2 or 3 plays. And we are not putting the defense in position to be successful by giving the ball up so quickly on offense.

My issues with Jabba go way back to his very first day at ND. He is a tool. And his "schematic advantage" is non existent. If I were not a grown man, I would have cried the day he was hired as OC. And it was still pretty close. I hate having that piece of crap represent my university. Period. I wouldnt feel any different about that if we were undefeated, but the last 2 games have not helped at all.

I appreciate you admitting your issue with Weis is more personal than anything else. Hell, Weis had Brantley completing passes downfield against Alabama's defense before he got hurt.

Do you want Addazio back?

I don't know what you were expecting on Saturday with a 3rd string QB making his first start. Do you think the outcome would have been any different had Brissett taken every snap? Geez....Weis was coaching up Brissett on the sidelines in between plays.

Our defense looked 100x worse than our offense the past two weeks, and that's on our defensive guru of a head coach and his DC with years of NFL experience.

I was laying off Weis the first few weeks because it looked like he was doing things right. Here are things I like about what he is doing right now:

1) I like having him on field instead of in the booth. He is coaching players on the sideline. I like that he sits there next to the quarterback on the bench, and he coaches, advises, etc during the game. He is interactive and I like that

2) Until Brantley got hurt, I liked the play calling. I think it was diverse. I think he put us in a position to make plays.

He knew all week that he was dealing with a 3rd string QB. He had chances to work his playbook a bit. Heck, they went back to last years playbook for Trey Burton. When Burton was in the game, we all knew what was going to happen.

If they had time to work Burton into the offense during the week, then they had time to work more of Brissett into the offense during the week.

I know this is a different world than 1984. But Kerwin Bell didnt find out until Monday or Tuesday of gameweek that he was starting against MiHammy. He didnt fare too poorly in that game. And he was a walk-on. And that was a very strong MiHammy program at the time.

Edit: and yeah, Im not real happy about the defense either. But I have been hopping mad about the offense, so have not had a chance to gather my thoughts on the D yet.
I just dont like the idea of pulling the guy in and out based on the down and distance. Put the guy in and play football.

To be fair, until Brantley got hurt our playbook was much thicker. Again, if it's a case where you flat out don't like Weis, that's fine, and you've admitted as much.

As far as Kerwin Bell goes, he was blessed with ridiculous backfield talent his freshman year (Anderson, Hampton and JLWilliams), in addition to being protected by the best offensive line in school history. They called it The Great Wall, remember?

And unlike Brissett, Kerwin Bell had the luxury of redshirting his true freshman year.

Our 1984 offensive unit was from another planet compared to what Weis has to work with. Hell, we barely ran worth a damn between the tackles against Tennessee.

Bottom line, our offensive struggles were expected against LSU. Our defense crapping the bed again was not expected.

Im understand what you are saying, I just think that the QuarterBack merry-go-round hurt us more than leaving the freshman in and letting him run the (limited) offense would have. I think Brissett has some pretty decent skills. I think he would have done an admirable job, and given us a better chance to move the ball than the gimmicky stuff that we went to. Call the plays he can run and dont be predictable. Having most of the week to prepare him, and not having him prepared is Jabbas fault. Brissett is much more capable than we made him appear. #predictable <--sorry, couldnt resist

The Defense. sigh. Yes, I agree 100%. Ive just been too ticked about the O-fence to build up that rant.

But you did bring up some great memories in this thread:
1) What an incredible bunch of running backs. Man, those boys could run the football (and yes, that is something we are missing now. OL and RB are completely different end of the spectrum)
2) Kerwin Bell threw one of the most catchable balls I have ever seen. He could strong arm it, and he could loft it. You almost always had a chance to catch it.
3) Someday when we get private messaging back I will say more, but I dont want to sound like Im trying to sound like I know something I dont. Just saying those were great times.
d) The ol Sombrero!!! I was in the marching band at UF in 1983 (post football career :eek:lol:) We played Pregame for the SuperBowl in Tampa. Our seats were on the rim between lower and upper bowls. . the concrete benches around the aisle. We had to stand on the benches to see any of the game. Sucked for seats, but great for lifting beers out of the vendors trays as they held them overhead while managing traffic on the aisle. Great times!!! Marched it with a kneecap that was in two pieces thanks to my attempt at making the team as a walkon. Thanks Tony Lilly. #HelmetToKneecap <--oh crud, I did it again.
