A JOE (Jumper Over Eighty) joined me in the gondola for a balloon jump at the St. Patrick's Day boogie in Fitzgerald, GA a decade ago. Three of us chose to land in a field that unfortunately had cotton harvested from it awhile before. Thorny bits of dead cotton plant threatened to tear our parachutes. We had to gather them very carefully after landing. Our JOE elected to land in a fallow pasture. His only obstacle was soft thistle.
