Trump on the Joe Rogan Podcast

Trump's brand of spineless is to talk big and then leave it to the next guy to do the dirty work (actually leaving Afghanistan)
I agree, Trump's spine is different than how you would consider it for most. His bravado hides a lot of his issues in that department.

granted it was a crap situation, but Trump did get deferment for Vietnam. Smart, but hardly brave, and hard to say he had a spine about it.

being too afraid to stand up to the media during Covid, and instead just leaving it to Fauci to handle.

he clearly didn't handle Kamala's petty little call outs very well in the one debate HE agreed to. not sure if that is "spineless", but he was incapable of moving on past it.

his complete political flip flop comes across pretty spineless to me. Lifelong Dem, to suddenly running as an R? If there was some transition period where he slowly separated himself from his D past, I would say that takes a "bigly" spine. as it was, it was purely a move of political ease, no spine required. Getting into politics as a Dem who have a habit of just appointing whoever they want, is a lot more difficult than winning the R nomination.

I don't blame anybody for avoiding conscription. The draft is un-American. We are not slaves to the state, especially in a war that we shouldn't be fighting.

What's worse, a spineless wimp, or a narcissistic conman?
as others have pointed out I don't think you are making much of a distinction here. Both apply to both.

but objectively speaking I would rather have the narcissistic conman in general, not specific to this race. a spinless wimp is worse as a leader.

for any leader, the choice should be clear. it is IMPOSSIBLE to expect a weak person, spineless wimp, to stand up for the tough things, make the difficult calls, deal with the criticism. all the things that come with being in charge. being weak and leading don't go to together. it just leads to inconsistencies, and a lack of clear direction which is critical when ish hits the fan.

the narcissistic conman at least gives you a CHANCE. yeah you are playing with fire, but they are going to get something done, being a conperson, and you hope some of the collateral of them helping themselves pays off for others too. that slim chance is more than you get from someone who can't lead.

I don't blame him for it. just pointing out when it comes to a character trait dodging the draft doesn't lean towards a person with a spine as a defining characteristic. it puts them into the "common sense" camp, which definitely has merit, but not so much the "brave" posistion.

I doubt young Trump was making any type of deep political gesture dodging the draft.

And how about those interviews where he has talked to the MSM? Kamalala won't do FOX, and if the friendly media didn't edit the interviews she does do she would look like an even bigger buffoon. Trump's interviews are unedited. All of them. But yeah, he's the spineless one. But you Trump haters don't care. you are going to vote for the buffoon simply because you hate Trump.
Trump literally wrote a book on how any press, even bad press, was good press. He is in this race, and won the first one, because he kept his name on everyone's lips. it doesn't take a spine if you go to into the situation thinking you are going to benefit regardless of the outcome.

imo its more about him seeing a situation that he can manipulate to his advantage, than directly being "spine-ful" or principled.

to me it points to being smart, a great self marketer, rather than the quality of having a spine.

A deferment is not draft dodging. Going to Canada is draft dodging

tomato, tomatoh.

he found a way out of the war.

again, I don't hold it against him. just pointing out that what people assume is Trump with a spine, is really just something else. which is still a positive, just not the specific positive they assumed.

Trump and Harris face two completely different realities. She can't say whatever she wants. Of course she's hesitant to do interviews. If she said she was gonna send legal Haitians to Venezuela over getting duped by fake news, she would be treated like an adult and feel the fire. Trump gets treated like he's a clueless little 4 YO who doesn't even know what he's saying.
Kamala literally has news networks working overtime editing interview questions to help her seem competent. Any criticism you have about Trump speaking off the cuff for three straight unedited hours rings quite hollow.

Yeah, for a lot of people on the right this ought to be a cardinal sin.

No, it isn't remotely the same thing.
bs. my dad faced the same choice. instead of getting drafted and sent to Vietnam, he enlisted and got to chose his destination to serve.

Trump dodged the draft, and service, all together. he paid, or his dad, to get a doctor to say whatever was needed to DODGE serving the country in an admittedly terrible fight. you playing semantics instead of admitting Trump isn't the God-King-Alpha-Dawg-Spine Lord is weak.

again I think both men made smart decisions, but it doesn't change how "spine-ful" Trump is.
