It was nothing more than a former Obama appointment that decided to publicly defy the new President. And he had every right in the world to fire her after the DOJ, THE DEPARTMENT SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OVERSEEING, helped craft the EO. It reeked of partisan BS and she decided to take the hard way out.

It wasn't the hard way. It was the easy way to gain notoriety and pave the way to a political career. Otherwise if she just resigned like the rest no one would know or care who she was.
