I want us to have a top 5 recruiting class just as bad as everyone else. But if they all turn out to be like Nuke, Morley, Banks, etc. then it doens't mean a whole lot. Here's some recruiting rankings that either went bust or took teams straight to the top.

Below are four teams that finished in the top ten of the final BCS poll, their BCS ranking and their average Rivals recruiting ranking over the past 4 years, followed by three more storied programs:

Cinci/3rd/79th
TCU/4th/71st
BSU/6th/75th
Iowa/10th/46th

On the other end of the spectrum:
Notre Dame/NR/10
Clemson/NR/20
Vols/NR/18

Some can win with less.

Sure wish we had the schedules those first four played. Maybe we would have won 8 games instead of 7. There is such a thing as strength of schedule.

I know that recruiting is important, or no one would be on this site right now, but I do think that coaching up players has become an afterthought in all this NSD fracas.

yes, schedule is definitely a factor.

The biggest factor, however, is Dooley and his crew.

If they pan out, our #10 class this year could be successful, and we'd most likely be a perennial top 5 class for the next few years.

Good point. I guess the other side is USC, LSU , FL, & AL having several Top 3 classes and winning NC's. Does that mean that either you're Top 3 or nothing?

Just thinkin'

I think if you have a team full of 4star or 5 star players that could be good, but not necessarily.......I think if you had a team full of Nick Reviez's and Greg Kings you'd be great as well.

BTW, alot of Bammers star players were 3 stars in high school, so player evaluations by our staff including character means more than just stars, IMO......

Final AP poll:

Alabama 1st/3rd
Texas 2nd/6th
Florida 3rd/2nd

Everyone that wins something that matters recruits top talent...

they also have great coaching staffs. A great staff can take average player into great players, and great players into champions.

Some can win with less...yes. But, can they do it in the SEC?

Good post, nonetheless.

Cinci/3rd/79th
TCU/4th/71st
BSU/6th/75th

Cincinnati got blown out, TCU lost and Boise State won the Fiesta Bowl...

If I'm not mistaken we want SEC and national championships here, and pretty much every recent team that won either one was really talented...

So one becomes a champion by recruiting great players...none of this was done with coached-up 3 stars. Maybe individual guys, but not an overall team...

Put TCU, Boise State and Cinci in the SEC and their recruiting will mean nothing and they'll be just like Vandy
