Truth be told, Nico was mediocre at best

Nico was over hyped. That is probably part of the problem at this point. He believed in his press even though last season showed that while he was good - he wasn't the great QB he was hyped to be. Him asking for NIL $$'s after last season just doesn't make any sense at all.

... That could also be interpreted as necessary. Without a quarterback who can read a defense and react efficiently, a coach's gameplan HAS to rely on defense and the running game. That's Football 101. If correct, it's a bright neon sign as to what CJH was seeing and game planning for; until whenever he finally saw the "light turn on" for the young man...
Also helps give perspective on why Milton was the starter in 2023 when the fans were clambering for us to burn Nico’s redshirt and get him playing time. Coaches saw he wasn’t ready and was not living up to his billing.

And Nico’s best chance to live up to the hype would have been to continue to play under Heupel’s system and learn from the guy who made Hendon Hooker into a star. He had a chance to study under the great sensei and threw that away.

Nico clearly has talent. I was optimistic for this year. Last year I think the coaches clearly didn’t trust him. It frustrated me w the conservative playcalling but I guess they have their reasons.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but let’s remember that the receivers and offensive line contributed to these stats.

Dropped passes and missed blocking assignments have an effect on these stats.
You also have to realize that the limited offense that he could run allowed defenses to know what was coming pre-snap. It’s hard to get open when the DBs know your routes and it’s hard to block when the D knows all of the above.

I don’t know if that was Nico or the staff but when Gaston Moore came in it seemed the offense opened up more.

The definition of a 5* is they are supposed to be ready physically and mentally to step on a collegiate field on day one. All I can say is the rating services blew that one.

Correct. And another example of rating error: He looked good in the bowl game against Iowa who supposedly had a great defense but they were overrated. When he faced SEC defenses it was a different story.

I wouldn't undersell Nico. He was good and had potential. Remember, he was only a 2nd year player. At this point in their respective careers, Dobbs had only shown flashes and Hooker had only thrown for 1500 yards at Va Tech (and got benched the next season).

But not worth the money. Moreover, the bigger issue is that this was all a distraction. He needs to ball out the next 2 years if he wants to be a top NFL draft pick. Instead, he's asking for Bugatti and obsessing over getting every penny he can right now. Overall, this is really a terrible long-term strategy. Making $2 million to learn how to play like a pro QB and potentially make $20+M is a pretty good deal. He got greedy.

He had to be cut loose; no choice, but I wouldn't spin this as "he's a bad QB". He wasn't worth $4 million or the problems he's making. He needs to stop listening to his dad and just focus on football.

Remember for every pass dropped the QB threw a pass right in a DBs hand he dropped for a interception or a pick 6 as Terry Bradshaw said it all evens out. PPL on here keep trying to give excuses for mid of the row SEC QB. Mid SEC QB is a really good player but not a 4 Mill. Missed passes from receivers vs a QB that takes a sack when he missed a open receiver. A QB that takes a sack on 3rd down and takes you out of FG range. Excuses are OK but a 4 Mill QB should make everyone around him better but this never happened. He was a mid range QB game manager that we could have lucked out and won it all with Sampson and the D with a few more TOs go our way. So a game manager is not bad but not a 4 Mill, I mean Tee Martin was a game manager that had stud all around him and won a Natty but we also won 4 games that could have went either way but Tee was not a generational QB.

It would be fun if Nico wound up on one of the teams we play. Would love to see our defense going after him for real.

Also Iowa played without their defensive star that made the All Rookie team in the NFL this year and Iowa was using backup QB they really had no reason to be in that Bowl game. Everything went our way in that game scored a lot because of D. Nico still just had around 200 passing. I cannot recall if Nico ever had a 300 passing game I'm almost sure he didn't vs SEC unless it was Vandy.
