Truth: NIL rules and Portal rules HAVE to change

Ok. I’m not schooled on all of the legalities. Above my head.
I was just thinking simplistically, I guess. So have they been employees of the university, or the state? Also, if I mentioned the term “semi-pro”, it was a mistake. Funny movie though). I know that if they’re getting paid for services, it’d be professional. Like any of us in our jobs.

They’ve never been employees.

This probably could have been avoided 20+ years ago if the NCAA had been forward thinking and set up an employment model for the players when the TV money got huge. Instead, they hid behind amateurism and made all they could until the O’Bannon lawsuit blew the lid off.

The schools do not consider them employees, that doesn't mean in the future they couldn't be adjudicated as employees in particular situations.

The schools are in a no win situation, and for good reason.

I know that there’s always been money under the table to athletes, but it’s just become a disappointing mess. I just want to watch football, root for my team, and kind of know that most of the players are fully invested…..and not looking for the next team to move to. It’s hard to even keep up with rosters nowadays.

This was my biggest gripe about players getting paid when it was being discussed. While Tennessee pushed and won the court battle to get to this point, the NCAA is now laughing at the situation. They will be in no hurry to fix the problems we all see.

I get it, we basically stopped watching sports about 8-10 years ago, gave up cable and never looked back.

However, what I realized back 10-12 years ago was all this was a lie. In a sense it's no different today though, it's a business.... the cream will rise to the top. Once I figured out that I was just cheering for Kmart to beat Walmart, it really felt strange.

I seriously doubt anyone can "fix" much of this at scale, if you reduce the scale i.e. number of teams maybe in a particular instance but still quite difficult imo. Many of us discuss this in the NCAA forum about 10-12 years ago off and on.

This will go on like Big Tobacco i.e. see you in 50-80 years. @GAVol has a good point that many of us discussed back in the day.... get ahead of the problem. They didn't, now they have each individual State involved.

Meh, we are wasting money on NIL and Sprye. What we should really do to break the system is the following:

We should form some underground criminal syndicate were we collect our funds and pay the players on the opposing teams to throw the game against Tennessee. Far better use of our funding. We can win a national title that way.

We can call our group one of the following names:

1. Mafia (or Tennessee Mafia)
2. Alabama booster club
3. Michigan spygate to bribegate
4. The Black Socks

Frankly, this might be the only way Tennessee can win it all and it seems like a better investment of funding
